3. Having good taste is a superpower. Most designers lack it, and it drastically holds them back. Bury yourself in good design work. Pinterest. Dribbble. Land-Book. Awwwards. It can't be taught. It can only be developed by exposure.
The great startup design isn't just about branding, web design, or the product itself. It encompasses all of these elements, much like a fine Swiss watch, where every single piece must complement the others, otherwise, it could fail.
Everything is risky. Spending money on advertising. Hiring someone in-house. Buying more inventory. Bringing on an agency. Learning it yourself. Getting a coach. BUT the riskiest of all is NOT doing it.
As a designer, I do not: - use design systems - use auto-layout - name my layers I also use #000000. I seem to be doing just fine.
The perfect design process is a myth. In my opinion, truly innovative and standout designs often emerge from a messy, unconventional process. Obsessing over the process is for large corporations, not for designers who want to make an impact with their work.
Best storytelling Apple has ever done
There are thousands of better designers out there than me. Design systems, atomic-level design, detailed grid systems, 50-page style guides… But is the UX strong? But does it look good? But does it look good? Same thing goes for you [at]photographers.
When I turned 30, I rented a massive house on 50 acres in Joshua Tree and invited 30 of my best friends (see photo). Celebrity chef cooking us meals to rare Mezcal from a town I'd never heard of. It was amazing. But today, I turn 35 and I'm doing it different. My highlight?…
the best designers jump straight into design, duplicate frames and are overall messy and wild they iterate fast and push ideas the worst start with components
My favorite Russell Westbrook game of All Time: - 50 Points, 16 Rebounds & 10 Assists - Broke Big O single season TD record - Unbelievable game winner What’s yours?
Only designers can like this tweet
I'll never charge hourly again. Screw being punished for being good & fast, while the slow get rewarded. Time spent ≠ better design.
Now that GPT4 can see, hear, and speak, building a business will never be the same. I built 2 SaaS businesses to $1M+ using GPT3 when it came out. Here are 12 game-changing use cases to fuel your next startup:
This is the beginning of the greatest buying opportunity since 2008.
Custom Instructions with GPT-4 unlocks some insane new capabilities. If you use ChatGPT, don't ignore this. Here are the 7 most insane example use cases I've seen so far (a thread):
The most predictable way to get wealthy is to marry rich. The second most predictable way might be with roll-ups. Here’s what they are (great for net worth goals of $10m+):
You want to invest in a private company? There are actually a bunch of different deal structures. Use the right structure, you can make big money. Use the wrong one, you can lose everything. Here’s all the ones I’ve seen:
Waking up early, cold plunging, quitting drinking, etc etc is not a substitute for knowing the right people. It’s all great stuff to do, but it’s not a substitute. The name of the game is knowing the right people.
