“Communication problems are top of patients’ concerns” Communication: precisely why advocates are needed and precisely why patients are called patients. The key lies in freedom to communicate. Hospitals that prioritise open dialogue do best. Including whistleblowing? Especially.

“What makes healthcare unsafe? Is it when people don't communicate, when the ward environment is noisy or when mistakes are made? The answer from this research is ‘all of these and more’.” Sue Hignett @lborouniversity on a patient safety concerns study. buff.ly/2U3FuP7

Unfortunately yes - delays in pay restoration resulting in medical staff leaving, cuts to MH services for staff and patients alike, outsourcing various referral pathways resulting in ridiculous beaurocracy, employing cheaper alternatives to surgical trainees... I could go on

An amazing event will happen today. Lloyds will get back the £1.2bn they lent the Barclay brothers to finance their ownership of the Telegraph, the Spectator and other assets. Lloyds, which only ever expected to be repaid £500m (the written-down value of the debt), will get all…

My God these people have no shame. The EU offered the UK membership of Erasmus, they offered free movement for musicians and performing artists - they offered education and opportunities for our young and our Government turned it all down. Appalling.

So it seems that the UK is leaving @EUI_EU Negotiations have failed. This morning we received an official letter from the UK Government confirming that the current UK-EUI relationship will end as the interim arrangement closes in December 2022. End of an era.
