Size matters… in tick-borne disease ecology! Ixodes pacificus nymphs (left) in CA have an infection rate of B. burgdorferi that is approximately 3x that in adults (right). Do your tick checks as both life stages can occur at the same time of year in certain areas. #ticktalk

On tonight's BBC News at Ten, the narrative about the campus protests moved even deeper into the realms of mendacious fiction. Earlier in the day the BBC led with a fake headline – "Rival protesters clashed" – even though the footage clearly shows outside pro-Israel agitators…

This thread on how admirable the student organizers have been. The “kids” are alright.

I’m as guilty as anyone of thinking of my @Columbia undergraduates as “kids.” But here is what I’ve seen them do in the last two weeks: (1/10)

I AM NOT A LAWYER, AND THIS IS NOT LEGAL ADVICE if you're going to a protest where you expect to get arrested it's extremely important to have arrest training. this thread will not be as useful as a proper training, but i can offer a few tips:

Thrilled to have been a part of this fascinating project lead by @IacarusoNick19 While arthropod eDNA detection is well-established, detecting tick eDNA is a bit challenging. We offer up some ideas as to why. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ed…

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 to this thread. I grew up in evangelicalism and am thrilled to see the scientific community standing up to pseudo-science and its connection to insidious, regressive dogma.

Excited to share this paper co-authored with @DSternCardinale on Fisher's fundamental theorem of natural selection: "Back to the fundamentals: A reply to Basener & Sanford 2018". The saga of how this paper came to be is pretty wild. link.springer.com/article/10.100…

We pay attention when it's foreign aid workers, because we know we can't just accuse them of being Hamas. But we should then recognize what that says about the utter dehumanization of Gazan civilians, and how eagerly so many are willing to participate in such dehumanization.

These were targeted hits on clearly marked humanitarian vehicles whose movement had been cleared with the IDF. Clearly forbidden under international law. A total violation of IDF's legal obligation to distinguish non-mil objects and protect aid workers. x.com/reider/status/…
