Hollywood 2025 Internship: Hollywood Golf Club is home to a well renowned championship golf course designed by Walter J. Travis in 1917 and masterfully restored to its original intent by Brian Schneider and Renaissance Golf Design in 2014. The club has… dlvr.it/TFZkGT

The GCM crew is all in purple today. They’re a tribute to The Patriot supt. Jeremy Dobson, Chris Wilson’s best friend whom we lost in a tragic accident. The purple represents their K-State ties and the logo is of Royal, Jeremy’s beloved black lab.

I’ve never seen a Walter Travis golf course that I didn’t love, and Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, NJ is one I love more than most. Not too easy, not too hard, never over the top, never boring - HGC, like all Travis designs, hits that sweet spot: a course I’d love to play everyday.

More and more golfers, both local players and those traveling to NYC or Philly, seem to be discovering Hollywood Golf Club. Designed by the great Walter Travis a little over 100 years ago, the course was recently restored by Brian Schneider. A top 5 course in NJ - fight me 🤷‍♂️.

By request, a few evening shots from Hollywood Golf Club. As with so many Walter Travis designs, when the sun gets low in the sky, all of the devilishly interesting nooks and crannies amongst the fairways and around the greens are revealed. An endlessly interesting golf course.

By request, a few from Hollywood Golf Club - if there can be such a thing as a course that is both on a Top 100 US list and under-the-radar at the same time, this Walter Travis gem is it. HGC should be on the must-play list of every traveling golfer visiting NYC, NJ or Philly.

Feels like a #TravisTuesday - let’s kick things off with one of the Old Man’s finest: Hollywood Golf Club. Hired in 1913 to blow up a new course with which the members were dissatisfied, the 4-time amateur champ set about designing a truly outstanding course. He succeeded.

Unveiled today: the new par-3 17th at Hollywood Golf Club! Architect Brian Schneider took what was the weakest hole on an otherwise terrific golf course and turned it into a visually striking strength. The restored tunnel through the berm is a memorable touch too. Tremendous.

A hearty congrats to the terrific Hollywood Golf Club for debuting at No. 83 on Golf Magazine’s Top 100 Courses in the US list. This 1915 Walter Travis design is a classic jewel - a lovely walk from one fantastic green to another, avoiding wicked Travis bunkering along the way.

New Jersey is an extremely golf-rich state surrounded by extremely golf-rich states, and so it’s full of unsung and underrated gems. By my count, the Walter Travis-designed Hollywood Golf Club would be the best course in at least half the states in the country. A true charmer.

Every year on International Women’s Day, I reread the amazing biography of Marion Hollins, who among many other things, developed Cypress Point & Pasatiempo, won the 1921 U.S. Amateur at Hollywood, and caused Bobby Jones to hire Alister MacKenzie at Augusta National. Incredible.

Founded by members of Merion annoyed at the difficulty in obtaining tee times, Gulph Mills Golf Club has a long and interesting history. Originally built by Donald Ross, the course saw work performed by William Flynn, Perry Maxwell & Gil Hanse, among others. An excellent hybrid.

Hollywood Golf Club was established in 1898, moving to its current site in 1912. The Walter Travis designed course was completed in 1918. In 2014, golf course architect Tom Doak of Renaissance Golf Design finished a complete restoration of the golf course. #EvoGCD 📷 = USGA
