I think it’s probably just because it’s whack. Not a big deal. It’s cringe. That’s ok. Doesn’t mean their cause is bad. Been seein too much crying over people thinking this is whack. It’s whack. That’s fine.
I think a reason Americans look at this and think it’s cringe is because we’ve been conditioned to be embarrassed by by honest displays of passion outside of romance and gun-based violence.
One time I was driving down the interstate and a livestock trailer was next to me. It was full of piglets. They stuck their little snouts and feet out of the grating on the side of the trailer. That image has haunted me since.

I used to work for a major environmental org. Within the org, there was a lot of hand-wringing over the fact that their internal polling showed that basically every environmental issue (except global warming) was more popular with Republicans than Democrats.
