Word of the day is ‘recrudescence’ (17th century): the return of something terrible after a time of reprieve.

The @WorldBank @Treasury_RSA and @Our_DA have proposed to terminate the #SRDGrant and replace it with a workseekers grant. Their proposals suggest that this would go to less than 4 million people. So over 4 million of the current SRD beneficiaries would be excluded. This @IEJ_SA

Work-seeking conditions on social grants are just bad policy! South Africa's unemployment is structural and forcing people to look for jobs that don’t exist won’t fix it - it will only add unnecessary costs to those in need. #BasicIncome #PayTheGrants #SRDGrant

Rather, they should use public transport, public healthcare, public schooling all year-round, since those are the services they see fit for the people.

I think all ministers in South African government should use public transport during the month of November. No blue light brigades. Just taxi, train and bus. Retweet if you agree!

Look around you at global "beacons of democracy" and realize that South Africa is a far better beacon. Deep trauma permeates all aspects of life, manifesting as generational trauma that makes it difficult to see the wood for the trees. I've been around, I've seen some things,…

Word of advice from someone in a settler state 30 years ago”post democracy”, Kick them out, they’re not sorry, they were okay with your oppression, they needed intervention to do the right thing (if they even do it). Let them apply for visas. Make their relocation a UN problem.

It is unacceptable that activists and land defenders are being criminalised and faced with ever increasing repression. I stand in solidarity with my friends in Mother Nature Cambodia and demand their immediate release, along with all political prisoners. #ActivismIsNotACrime

A court in #Cambodia sentenced 10 environmental activists associated with the Mother Nature group to six to eight years in prison. The Cambodian government needs to listen to its environmental activists, instead of jailing them. Those imprisoned should be immediately released.
