This is cool to see. Two Europeans have just started 2 weeks of training in traditional shrine-building carpentry techniques at Itsukushima Shrine on the island of Miyajima chugoku-np.co.jp/articles/-/485…

A 40-year-old unemployed man turned himself in at a police box in Hiroshima yesterday, confessing to robbing a taxi driver with a pair of scissors last Sunday.

Seen things like this overseas, but a first for us in Japan!

This is something I didn’t expect to be on an izakaya menu in Japan. The atomic bomb 💣 cocktail

Still very much a thing. We are lucky to have @ryowanamiki here in Hiroshima who see non-Japanese renters as a market rather than a nuisance.

NHK has an article on an under-discussed subject in Japan: the many realtors and landlords who outright refuse to rent to foreign residents. One man from Spain was bluntly told “foreigners aren’t allowed to take up residence here” - and has the email to prove it.

A 30m tall oak tree fell at the grave site of the great samurai warrior Motonari Mōri on the ruins of Koriyama Castle in Akitakata. The tree did not strike any of the graves but smashed four 3m tall stone lanterns dating from 1802 and 1922. youtu.be/KmN0IdpdiX4

Oh no, anti-immigrant Japanese right wingers… bad news. Foreign residents paying into health insurance more than they take out! It makes sense because immigrants are typically younger than the average Japanese population. They contribute 3% to the health insurance and take…

We had the first super hot day of the year here in Hiroshima yesterday. Temperatures got up to 30.3℃ and it was even hotter in the inland areas of Kake in Akiota and Shobara. It's looking like today will be another hot one so take it easy out there!
