Welsh Government’s new mental health strategy is missing something: a specific focus on children and young people.

Mental health hospitals should be safe. They should be places of understanding, kindness and hope. Places where people feel respected and cared for. But sometimes, this isn’t the case. Content warning: this thread mentions use of restraint in a mental health setting. 1/8

This week is National Eating Disorder week. There is still a desperate need for early intervention and for appropriate services to be available for people struggling! I will continue to speak out to raise more awareness and I am hopeful that things are slowly improving! ❤️

I wrote an article for the Western Mail about my experience with mental health services. Read below ☺️⬇️

It was so empowering to hear you speak so bravely about your experience. Thank you so much! ❤️

Thank you so much for joining us and speaking - really informative, powerful and helpful to many! #EatingDisorderAwarenessWeek #T1DE @BeatED_Wales

Absolutely made up for the young people @MindCymru who worked on the #SortTheSwitch campaign. Fully deserved recognition for the impact they’ve had on seeking to improve experiences. More about the campaign here👇🏻 mind.org.uk/news-campaigns… Diolch a llongyfarchiadau pawb👍🏻🎉

Now for the Healthcare and/or Wellbeing Campaign. The Silver in this category is won by Cause, phs, and Prostate Cancer UK, with the Gold going to Working Word, Mind Cymru, and young campaigners. @workingwordpr @causeuk @phsgroup @prostateuk

Another important story that not only highlights the need for a smoother transition from children to adult services, but also the lack of specialist eating disorder units in the WHOLE of Wales. This needs to change. Inspiring story @GTaylor_02 #EatingDisorder #Wales @MindCymru

Gaps in #mentalhealth care in #Wales left one patient relapsing and losing a year of her life in order to recover. #eatingdisorder #Bridgend itv.com/news/wales/202…

No one with an eating disorder is untreatable!

Proud of the involvement of two of our former pupils @GTaylor_02 & @MegAbbott19 in their continued dedication to campaign for change in mental health services in Wales! #SortTheSwitch #BeAllThatYouCanBe

Mental health services in Wales are insufficient for many. More support is needed to meet the needs of the country. No one should be travelling miles from home for mental health support and or getting lost in the system. Proud of the #SortTheSwitch campaign. @GTaylor_02 ❤️

Thank you so much Meg, Fiona and @MindCymru for being a part of this amazing journey with me. #sorttheswitch needs to be addressed now. There is no more time to be wasted ❤️

@GTaylor_02 so proud of you for speaking out. It’s time for changes within Wales when relating to mental health. A big chance is needed, specifically around providing sufficient care and prevention for eating disorders. itv.com/news/wales/202…

Everyday patients are let down when transitioning from camhs to adult services. How many more patients need to go without support before the @WelshGovernment step up? Thank you @robosbornewales for yet again shining light on a situation that so many young adults suffer through.

For mental health awareness week, I did a skydive for @BeatED_Wales Eating disorders are such a dangerous illness and affect so many people. Recovery is truly possible and worth it. It all starts with reaching out for help! ❤️ #MentalHealthAwarenessWeek #ed #recovery

petition.parliament.uk/petitions/6364… This is such an important petition! Eating disorders are a mental illness and should not only be taken seriously when someone reaches a low BMI. People can be struggling with an Eating Disorder at any weight and deserve the same level of intervention
