Fantastic shots from @NLancsWildlife Lovely to see all those Tree Sparrows on the feeder, an endangered species making a comeback. Plus, one of our most elusive residents, the Water Rail, mopping up underneath.

Here are some holiday snaps from one of the Bobs. OC5, from this year, has been spotted in Portugal, getting the hang of fishing. Well done little lad!

We didn't expect to see him again so soon 👀 Yep, that's 0C5 from this year's #FoulshawOspreys brood! These pictures were taken just a few days ago in Portugal, at Lagoa de Óbidos. (1/2) #Osprey #Cumbria #LakeDistrict

Foulshaw is more than just Ospreys. We had the first confirmed Hobby ever to fledge in Cumbria. The parents were very protective of the nest, even seeing off the Osps if they got too close - and an Osprey is 8 times their size!

Turns out there was another bird family at Foulshaw Moss this year, flying under the radar... Two of our volunteers, Matthew and David, recently reported what is believed to be the first confirmed sighting of a pair of nesting hobbies here in Cumbria 😲 (1/3)

A lovely little round up of the season from @cumbriawildlife As always, dad stayed until the youngsters had started their journey. We'll miss them.

The ospreys have flown...🥹 We're wishing them safe journeys as they make their way to warmer climes for winter. Here's a little video of some of our favourite clips this year, from nest-building fails to first flights 💚 #FoulshawOspreys @foulshaw2 (1/2)

An end of season salute to these two. With 29 fledged chicks and several grandchicks they've played a huge role in the return of Ospreys to Cumbria and England. We'll be thinking of them and the Bobs on their long journeys south. Many thanks for all your interest and support.

There's always something going on at Foulshaw. Even at night. This was an unexpected visitor to the nest. Barn Owls weigh c.350g. Osps weigh around 1.8Kg - about five times as much - but the Owls will still give them a whack in the dark if they think it's their territory!

Thank you Irene. Glad you had such a good day at Foulshaw. The heather looks fantastic at the moment - with a "comforting hum of bees" to add to the effect. What a lovely phrase!

Superb visit to Foulshaw Moss on Sat - a closer than usual Osprey with a fish, plus masses of dragons on the wing, Migrant Hawkers, Common Darter and a few Black Darters and a comforting hum of bees on the heather @cumbriawildlife @Foulshaw2

Talk about ungrateful! Osprey talons go deep into the fish and they have tiny, sharp scales on their feet that grip it. It can be hard to let go. However stroppy your offspring become!

We're imagining poor White YW shouting 'ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS SAY PLEASE, SON' as 0C5 tries to wrestle this freshly delivered fish away from him. #FoulshawOspreys @foulshaw2

So where have the Osps gone? I haven't the foggiest. The crows have no-one to mither this morning. The Bobs could be starting their big adventure any time in the next week or so.

Eye eye. Those peepers have 5 x the photoreceptors we have, extra focus muscles and can see ultraviolet. They've more colour detecting cone cells than black & white rod cells, so don't see so well in low light. That's why they never wear shades. Already cool enough.

"I moved several of those sticks around randomly. I'm not having some stranger take advantage of all my hard work!" Good for you OC5. Mum will be proud of you.

Intruder alert! 🚨 Here's 0C5 valiantly defending the nest against an interloper – Blue 6K3. We're not sure where this osp is from but we'll see if we can find out. It may have already started its migration journey & is doing a nest recce en route. #FoulshawOspreys @foulshaw2

If you think the Bobs are not on the nest anymore, look out for the tell tale tail. They like to perch on top of the webcam where they can't be seen through the webcam, except as this angle!

Tweet Image 1

Pretending you've just flown in from an expedition when you've actually just hopped down from the top of the webcam. The Bobs will be with us for another two to three weeks before their big adventure begins. Can't believe how time has flown.

OC5 having a wee snooze in the hope that it might be tea time when he wakes up. Ospreys, like most birds, close their lower eyelid, not both like us.

This isn't some kind of hostel you know! Yet more Osps on the move. It gets pretty busy at this time of year. Thanks to Polly for the shot.

YW checks the nest. He hatched in 2008 from a nest that in 2001 was England's first for over 150 years. He is first generation Cumbrian and English Osprey. He's now fathered 29 chicks, feeding and protecting them all. And he's a grandpa several times over. Well done that lad!

Tweet Image 1

Hey YW, why are you carrying that fish? Just for the halibut... Well, not quite, but a flatfish is being delivered to a hungry Bob. They seemed to hide away for most of today. Different matter when supper's due.

Tweet Image 1

You check that way, I'll check over here. The gothspreys are keeping an eye out for the real thing. The young Osps can now eat while perched in a tree, so aren't on camera much. But they fly around a lot, so come and see them before they head off in about 3 weeks.
