💡 NEW RESEARCH! Hierink et al. determine the impact of using different gridded population datasets on measures of geographic accessibility to healthcare facilities in sub-Saharan Africa nature.com/articles/s4385…

New @CommsMedicine paper! Gridded population data are essential for knowing where people lack access to healthcare. Differences between data products impact these estimates. Coverage differences can exceed 70%. These results are crucial to anyone relying on population data.

Last Friday, I successfully defended my doctoral thesis in the Global Health program at the University of Geneva. The thesis applies, evaluates, and reviews geographical accessibility models in different settings in LMICs. A scientific body of work with a practical implication.

Wow, what an incredible presentation from @FleurHierink a health geographer on using geo-spatial data to model accessibility to health services post cyclone in Mozambique! Unfortunately something that will be needed more & more with this #climatecrisis

Gridded population data are essential for research, policy-making and humanitarian action. In our preprint we show how the use of different population data can lead to diverging patterns of healthcare coverage, underscoring an essential source of uncertainty in access modelling.
