October 1942. On leave, Hedley Lake left Norfolk for Newfoundland. He was on a ferry when a German torpedo struck. In shorts and a life jacket, he survived hours in the frigid water. He served at Sicily, Salerno, Anzio, and Normandy. Hedley died this week. Please remember him.
