Our last year nematode survey resulted in the first report of sting nematode from turf in MD @umdturf

Seeing SLF more frequently in MD this year! Either I am paying more attention or they are more.

We got our new toy up and running! Still a few final details to fine-tune but generally done.We are testing the effect of UVC on cool season turf diseases. Big shout out to our farm mechanic (Joe DeRico) for assembling the system and @Udaykumar_Thera for leading the work.@UMDTurf

It is sad to see our valued turf farm manager “Dave Funk” is retired (well happy for him too). UMD has opened the Farm Manager position. Please circulate! @UMDTurf

University of Maryland has an open position for the Turfgrass Farm Manager role. Please see the application link below @UMDTurf ejobs.umd.edu/postings/118020

You can check out our new publication (a collaborative effort between USDA and UMD) on the effect of long term fertilization and cultivation on nematode abundance and ecology in tall fescue turf here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10… @whereswaldoben @UMDTurf

Our in vitro tests show an impressive effect of UVC in the management of dollar spot pathogen. Preliminary greenhouse work showed 60 sec of irradiation works better for cooking turf 😂 Big shout out to @Udaykumar_Thera and @KabitaSl for leading the work.@UMDTurf #turfgrass #IPM

We inoculated newly established perennial rye for gray leaf spot last week and got the first symptoms after a week. I was concerned about getting Pythium and started preventative app, Mother Nature sent brown patch instead 😁
