From Monday to Friday next week, we will be hosting conservationists from all around the world. Each experts in their field, these far-flung, impactful thought-leaders will be joining us here in Samburu to create a framework for community-led conservation.

Last week, we had the great privilege of putting up and hosting a stall at the Maa Cultural festival, hosted on the edge of Samburu National Reserve. Bringing together Maa peoples from Narok, Samburu and Kajiado counties it was a vibrant celebration of this extraordinary culture.

We recently had the pleasure of hosting our conservation partner Toby Otieno, Operations & Impact Director for @EwasoLions He was able to interact with our team, and even helped out with an Amur leopard exam. Every time you visit us, you're helping us save lions in the wild.

Last week, we spotted Selengei, one of Kalama Pride's 4-year-old females resting on the main road in Samburu National Reserve. Selengei appears to be venturing out by herself more and more these days. She looked to be in good health. #Lions #Conservation

Last week, our team were at KWS’ 14th Carnivore Conference in Nairobi. Toby, our Operations and Impact Director, Letupukwa our Lion Manager, and Munteli, our Mama Simba Manager, attended on behalf of Ewaso Lions. They spoke well on conservation and community leadership.

Westgate Conservancy was established in 2004 and soon after that, a small 8.9 km² Conservation Area was set aside exclusively for conservation and tourism. This was a community-led initiative. The Conservation Area has since become a safe haven for all wildlife, including lion.

We’re a proudly community-led organisation. Each of Ewaso Lions’ employees are Kenyan and the majority of us come from the communities that live in areas surrounding the Ewaso Nyiro river. But, without the help of the local community, we would not be able to do what we do.

On Saturday of last week, we spotted this cheetah mother and cub pairing lain up under some shade soon after they had killed an impala. This was encouraging to see. All three looked to be in good health. #cheetah #conservation #wildlife #NorthernKenya

Recently, whilst out looking for lions near Koitogor Hill in Samburu National Reserve, we came across 6 lions grouped together. There were 4 adults – Lolkiripa, Ngarsis, Ldere and Lgalas – and 2 cubs. Meet the newly named cubs: Lesooito and Lgejuk. #Lions #Conservation #Pride

One of our more recent lion sightings was especially exciting. In Westgate Conservancy, we spotted Narasha, one of Naramat’s offspring and now a mother herself. We hadn’t seen her or her three cubs since the heavy rains. They each looked to be healthy. Naramat’s legacy lives on.

Recently four members of our staff graduated from being warriors to elders. Following a two-day ceremony – known as Lmuget –, Jeneria, David, Lerimara and Lesiamito were initiated into elderhood as a part of the Ririmpot Lenairo group of graduates. Congratulations to all!

Three days ago, we spotted a pair of lionesses that we’re especially happy to have seen. We spotted the pair of lionesses at a giraffe kill and with 3 cubs in tow. It was great to see all five of them in good health.

When our Lion Kids Camp (LKC) safari bus isn’t in use for our Camps, we try and ensure that it can be a valuable resource for our community. Yesterday, the LKC bus took 20 students from the Kiltamany Primary School to a nearby school so they could study in a laboratory.

Have a look at some of the great photographs our Lion Manager, Laikos Letupukwa, managed to take over the course of last week. Letupukwa spent the majority of last week patrolling much of Northern Kenya, speaking to community groups and monitoring for predators. #Conservation

Mid-morning today, Jeneria and Munteli were out searching for lions and came across this pair. The male is Lolkiripa and the female is yet to be identified. A lion sighting is always a great way to start the day! #lion #conservation

Huge congratulations to Letupukwa, our Lion Manager, for winning Houston Zoo's Wildlife Warrior award. Letupukwa has been with our team since 2011, rising up through the organisation. His passion, dedication and hard work are getting the credit they deserve! #lion #warrior

A week in the life of the Mama Simba ladies: In these photos and video, you'll see our Mama Simba ladies tending to a lokere, out on patrol looking for predators and also on safari, taking women from local community groups into Samburu National Reserve for a safari. A busy week.
