On this day in 1986, the 15th Festival OTI was held in Santiago, Chile. 20 countries competed with 🇨🇦 debuting, while 🇧🇶, 🇪🇸 & 🇳🇮 withdrew, 🇪🇸 cited the Chilean dictatorship as the reason for withdrawal. 🇧🇴 returned to the contest. 🇺🇸 won with the song "Todos", 🇲🇽 2nd & 🇦🇷 3rd.

On this day in 1980, the 9th Festival OTI was held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. 23 countries competed with 🇧🇴 & 🇳🇮 returning. 🇵🇷 took its 2nd victory with Rafael José and his song "Contigo mujer", 🇪🇸 was 2nd and 🇦🇷 3rd. 🇧🇶 and 🇧🇴 scored 0 points.

On this day in 1973, the 2nd Festival OTI was held in 🇧🇷 Belo Horizonte, Brazil. 14 countries competed with 🇲🇽 making its debut in the contest. 🇲🇽 took victory represented by Imelda Miller with "Qué alegre va María", 🇵🇪 was 2nd with 10 points and 🇩🇴 3rd, 🇧🇴 was last with 1 point.

On this day in 1984 the 13th Festival OTI was held in Mexico City, Mexico. 21 countries competed 🇵🇹 returned and 🇺🇾 withdrew. This year national juries were replaced by a mixed panel of judges. 🇨🇱 won with Fernando Ubiergo and "Agualuna", 🇵🇹 was 2nd and 🇲🇽 3rd.
