I'm not sure people fully realize that the GOP's attacks on trans student athletes largely originated from social conservatives searching for a new target after their defeat on gay marriage "We threw everything at the wall" Terry Schilling said vox.com/policy/385549/…

For many policy areas, such as housing and policing, the issues at stake are nationally important, but the decision makers and the politics are primarily local. Local Interests looks at what has been happening (and not happening) in U.S. cities--and why. press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book…

In debate at beginning of Biden admin, deliverism was a misreading of evidence on policy feedback: policy design can help with sustainability &, in limited circumstances, increase participation. But usual pattern is more policy -> worse election outcomes: vox.com/22245242/democ…

“The issue is not that deliverism failed. It is that Democrats convinced themselves that they had delivered, without listening to the voters telling them they had not.”

Will Biden's reform accomplishments -- the IRA, etc. -- survive the new Trump administration? My book Reforms at Risk examines why some reforms stick and other fade away. The Kindle version is on sale for just $2.99. @WatsonInstitute @PrincetonUPress amazon.com/Reforms-Risk-I…

New #HigherEdSpotlight episode w/@dynarski of @hgse on the disastrous launch of the revamped FAFSA. We cover what went wrong, why Sue calls the results "heartbreaking"- & how a better path forward would be eliminating the FAFSA altogether. Full episode👉tiny.cc/1iyuzz 🎧

The long-term public opinion trend on immigration was toward more favorable attitudes. It only reversed after Biden came into office & dramatically & saliently moved immigration policy leftward. If Trump visibly mass deports, it should be expected to become more favorable again

As I show in my book, there was a lot of countermobilzation against Trump's policies during his first term. Despite his big victory last night, I expect to see more backlash in his second, especially if he really does try to implement mass deportations. shorturl.at/wxCuo

Best poll of the day: who do you think fictional characters would vote for? Apparently survey respondents think Ted Lasso and Detective Olivia Benson would vote Harris, but that Dwight Schrute is a Trumper. today.yougov.com/entertainment/…

Messages like this are great, but should be coming from @ElectionsBC and not politicians. Our work on election trust shows voters want to hear from election officials, not party leaders when it comes to election integrity. doi.org/10.1093/pnasne… #BCElections2024

We knew this was going to be a close election, but we’ve been here before. BCers support our fair election process and the people at Elections BC making sure every vote gets counted. Thanks to candidates, volunteers & election workers who make democracy work.

Super proud of my better half @DxGordon whose work contributed to the game-changing Tanager-1 satellite which was recently launched to detect climate emissions. @WatsonInstitute

Thrilled to see the FIRST emissions detections from the @carbonmapper coalition Tanager-1 satellite just over a month since I saw it launch into space. 🚀 We've come so far! Emissions transparency at this level of granularity is a game changer! prnewswire.com/news-releases/…
