I had way too much fun shooting reference for Spot here..😳 I did about 25 different versions trying to find the right amount of awkwardness for him. After splicing together the parts that worked best, this was the final result. #SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse

I get the same question a lot from people outside the industry. “Why don’t you just mocap everything?” Because stuff like this can be a little hard on the body…

This was so nice to hear 🙂 So much time goes into figuring out just the right performance for a character in a shot. A large amount of video reference and thumbnailing goes on way before we sit down and start animating.

#TIFF24@Lupita_Nyongo praises the animators behind #TheWildRobot. "It is the animators that are the performers here, right? We are lending ourselves to their work." Watch full interview ⤵️ thewrap.com/the-wild-robot…

Happy #SpiderManDay everyone! (One of my favourite shots I animated of the web slinger 🙂)

We prefer working with artists. My favourite part of making these films is the collaboration between humans.

Chris Miller says there will never be generative AI usage for the ‘SPIDER-VERSE’ films. “One of the main goals of the films is to create new visual styles that have never been seen in a studio CG film, not steal the generic plagiarized average of other artists’ work”

We have no interest in Ai art

There is no generative AI in Beyond the Spider-Verse and there never will be. One of the main goals of the films is to create new visual styles that have never been seen in a studio CG film, not steal the generic plagiarized average of other artists’ work.

A year ago today I walked into this. My wife and family surprised me with an Across The Spider-Verse release party. They knew how much this film meant to me, how hard I worked on it and how excited I was for the world to see what our crew had made. I’ll always love this film

If you don't understand art fundamentals you won't be hired for art jobs. It's natural to want to learn new tech. We may enter a world where some clients want AI art. However you're setting yourself up for failure if legal & ethics issues aren't dismissed or the tools change. 2/2

Advice to art students. Your core art knowledge, skills & observation abilities will take you much further than any software. Knowing how to use a calculator doesn't mean you can successfully be a mathematician, you still need to understand math. 1/2
