@EnergyLawProf was quoted by @dcexaminer about SCOTUS appearing poised to narrow the scope of law requiring research on “environmental impacts” before starting large development projects, a more than 50-yr-old requirement under the Nat. Env. Policy Act. z.umn.edu/a17x
"Today, the MISO Board of Directors unanimously approved the largest portfolio of transmission projects in the nation’s history. The 488 projects span more than 5,000 miles" including "3,631 miles for regional projects in MISO’s Midwest subregion" including "a 765kV backbone."
MISO's Board of Directors has unanimously approved the historic 2024 MISO Transmission Expansion Plan (MTEP24), which includes 488 projects that span more than 5,000 miles across 15 states. Learn how MTEP24 will strengthen grid reliability: ow.ly/vLMx50Uq4XK
“NEPA asks agencies to study potentially significant environmental impacts of federal permits for infrastructure projects. The Court will decide whether this obligation extends to ‘upstream’ & ‘downstream’ impacts beyond the agency’s jurisdiction & expertise.” - @Mario_A_Loyola

“Clean energy has to become much cheaper and more abundant to beat fossil fuels in the marketplace. To bring prices down, Democrats will need to be open to cutting down on the endless red tape & environmental analyses required by laws like the National Environmental Policy Act.”
Wise words from @ArnabDatta321 on how the IRA created a broad coalition for clean energy investment and why cutting red tape to make clean energy cheaper and more abundant provides the best path for continued progress under Trump. nytimes.com/2024/12/08/opi…
Full house for @HellerHurwicz pop-up discussion of tariffs and trade in the new administration
Good thread as always from Rory
Thinking through what a 20% universal US tariff would mean for oil markets in the unlikely scenario in which the tariffs happen and oil flows aren't excluded. Tariff incidence will be split between 3 places: 1. US refining margins 2. US pump prices 3. Exporter (i.e., oil source)
ah shoot, I’d be remiss if I didn’t shout out @EnergyLawProf’s “Pipelines & Power-Lines” (2019), which has (among many other things) a great intro to CWA Section 401
Here's my list of core readings I'd send over to someone who wants to understand permitting & permitting reform in the US. Twitter, tell me what I'm missing!
What are your favorite syllabi? Any field welcome. Commentary/annotations especially appreciated, though just a raw list of core papers/ books/ essays is also very useful.
