Out today in Restoration Ecology - our 2nd paper from @treesforlifeuk's woodland creation sites. Exploring the response of multiple ecosystem functions to native reforestation in the Scottish Highlands. Available open-access here: doi.org/10.1111/rec.13… 1/n
📢Delighted to announce my big new #publication in the journal #Restoration #Ecology is now available online & #OpenAccess: "Montane willow scrub restoration in Scotland: reviewing 30 years of progress to reestablish the altitudinal treeline" (🧵1/10) 👉onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/re…
Baseline tree measurements in our mycorrhizal experiment with @highlandsrewild complete! Our experiment compares planting with and without mycorrhizal inoculation in a former plantation. See the time spent measuring 500 trees captured by the changing autumnal landscape!
Our team have been helping Dr @EmilyWarner28 and researchers from the University of Oxford's Leverhulme Centre for @NatureRecovery at Glen Loyne🌱Who are researching how the expansion of forests impacts the relationships between plants and soil 🙌
Accurate measurement of project outcomes is crucial. With the launch of the #AgileInitiative #NaturebasedSolutions Knowledge Hub last month, NbSI researcher @EmilyWarner28 comments: naturebasedsolutionsinitiative.org/news/monitorin… @oxmartinschool
Great to talk about my research plans exploring tree-soil interactions with natural tree regeneration in the Scottish Highlands in collaboration with @treesforlifeuk
📢Launched today: New NbS Knowledge Hub to help scale #naturebasedsolutions in the UK. Developed by researchers from @NatureBasedSols & #AgileInitiative, including cross-disciplinary tools, guides and policy briefs. naturebasedsolutionsinitiative.org/news/nbs-knowl…
Thanks to a lot of tech bros and economists getting Very Upset about degrowth, this article is now the number one trending publication at Nature. nature.com/articles/d4158…

There's lots of announcements and news coming out of #COP28. I'm here to rank them for you from a climate scientist's perspective, using 🌴 for the wins and 🤦♀️ for the facepalms. Did I miss something? Let me know and I'll add it to this list! #ClimateAction #COP28FromHome 🧵

Really excited to have my first solo author paper published today in Environmental Science and Policy by @ELSenviron! It examines the political consequences of high-tech forest carbon verification. I argue carbon is 'known not grown' sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Thread: 1/9
As we approach #COP28 we are likely to see pledges for #forest creation. Forest type is crucial. Our meta-analysis, using a global dataset of studies, shows the carbon storage benefits of diversifying planted forests. We want to see that reflected in countries' pledges.
"Diverse planted forests store more carbon than monocultures – upwards of 70%." 🌳🌲🌴 Press release on the latest research by @EmilyWarner28 and team: blog.frontiersin.org/2023/11/09/mul… 📰Article published now in Frontiers in Forests and Global Change: frontiersin.org/articles/10.33…
This is what 50 years of woodland expansion looks like. Our new research published in @JAppliedEcology demonstrates the potential of woodland expansion in the presence of deer... without fencing or extensive planting. 📷 @nature_scot Invereshie 1973 - 2023, Ian Sargent.
