Making abortion a felony when most states don’t allow felons to vote is effectively reversing the 19th Amendment.
I paid a $900 fee for my mom’s local paper to publish her obituary and a photo taken by my dad. The NY Post reprinted both and placed ads on the page, which means I have effectively (unwillingly) paid $900 for the Post to make money off my mom’s obituary and a personal photo.
Next year in NC: 1) Our state legislature will convene. 2) The GOP will pass a bill banning abortion. 3) The Governor will veto it. 4) A veto override vote will be held. 5) Either Dems will have enough members to sustain the veto, or not. Those are the stakes this November.
Remember when they were trying to figure out why there was a giant drop in crime like 30 years ago and they tried to say it was due to better policing… And then the Freakonomics dudes figured out it’s because an entire generation wasn’t forced to give birth to unwanted kids.

🧵 Many people have asked me “what EXACTLY needs to be done in NC to preserve abortion rights?” Here’s my answer: ➡️ NC House has 120 seats. Dems have 51 of them. We broke the Republican supermajority in 2018 & now we can uphold vetoes. We’ve done that over 40 times since then.
