Born in Baltimore, #PauliMurray moved to #Durham NC after their mother died. Pauli’s aunt & primary caregiver, Pauline Fitzgerald Dame, taught in an all-Black school. “Aunt Pauline taught in the local public schools & when I was around 4, she decided to bring me w/her every day.”

#PauliMurray attended #segregated schools in #Durham, NC through 11th grade. They graduated from Hillside High School in 1926, and wanted to attend a nonsegregated college. Pauli ended up attending @Hunter_College in #NYC, where they graduated w/a Bachelor’s degree in English.
