I think it’s important to write in front of your students and be clear about what craft moves look like in context.

ES home room teachers, how many minutes are your students in your class each week? Thank you!

A while back, I asked about typing in grade 2...have been thinking and experimenting with this. My thinking now: teach the skills needed! provide choice, define the purpose, doesn't have to be typed all the time, some Ss are ready and some need more time

Looking for opinions and thoughts from other elementary teachers: When should kids switch from writing with their hands to composing with a device? I teach grade 2. What's the purpose? - writing/publishing completed narratives. Please share!

My other pick for the medal - @YoungVoart shows readers how language can be a monster. My class talked so much about this book and connected to the idea of not speaking the language of your peers at school. Amazing first book Mr. Vo!

This one could go all the way! Brilliant illustrations - the use different frame shapes, color, perspective, layers of detail, outlines. Wow. My class loved it. #callingcaldecott @DougSalati

Ss began drafting yesterday and used some of these strategies on their own. These experts will teach the class instead of me! Excited to challenge grade 2 students to write longer and stronger about topics they love.

3 sounds of -ed inquiry. Ss think of and find words to add to each group. Can you spot the irregular past tense verbs these 2nd graders have added -ed to? This will be a celebrated next step for our class. Love seeing misspelled words! @wordtorque

Grade 2 writers invested 7 days into planning their nonfiction books!

Enjoyed trying the imotion app to dramatize pollination with recycled goods. Easy and fun for g2s to use! @Fingerlab @aisbudapest

The next step in co-creating class norms this year... Kids drew pictures and took photos of their ideas. Teachers should be at the bottom of the display, BUT students need to be able to see their own work. Interesting to think about a T's roles too @aisbudapest @ESLearningAISB

The first 4 read-alouds of the year. Each of these picture books offered so much in terms of illustrations and messaging. My class loved them and so did I! @MrAdamRex @JacobGrantBooks @brendanwenzel @BCBooksAuthors Picture book nerds...what's a common theme(s) in all 4?

This is the first year my class has done NO academics at all the first week. It’s been wonderful. Games, art, and play make for a comfortable start. Today, we are co-creating a class info-graphic about our roles when learning together. @aisbudapest

How can students engage in word inquiry independently? With support? Sharing some ideas at the upcoming #wordinquiryinaction conference hosted by @wordtorque

I'm honored to be one of the presenters at the upcoming Word Inquiry in Action conference. My presentation is about developing practical routines and co-creation in K-3 classrooms. Enjoyed gathering examples and thinking about SWI. #wordinquiryinaction #wordtorque #wordinquiry

Grade 2 students app smash to create digital illustrations for their realistic fiction books. @picCollage's cut out tool is brill! Thanks @The_Pigeon for the illustration mentor text, Knuffle Bunny.

Our most recent class inquiry. Irregular past tense verbs are tricky! @MichaelPalagi pushing me to keep trying new things. It's messy and far from perfect.
