Congratulations to @Olycuba for a very interesting and successful presentation and PhD dissertation defense yesterday! Very proud of her. She is the most recent student to graduate from my group with a PhD and she will be the last one, since I will be retiring very soon.
Our most recent JACS article reporting the use of endohedral fullerenes as unique Hydrogen Evolution Reaction electrocatalysts, based on cage charge localization. Congratulations to Drs. Alain Puente Santiago and Maira Cerón for these interesting results. pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/ja…

With my daughter Jeannette and son in law Erick in Johnson City, along with my 3 grandchildren, Thomas, Emma and John, to watch the sunset and then the Xmas lights in Johnson City. Nice time with the family. Spending the next 2 days with them. Happy Holidays to Everyone!
In the end, it was a very low Barr.

I totally agree with Ram, ACS and RSC journals have been perfectly adequate for my career.
I find myself totally unmoved by any news of ridiculous Nature OA charges. I never had the time for this family of journals, having built my career on the backs of working class journals like @ChemMater and @PhysRevB And I would not change that for anything.
Garbage alert: this “big authorship data” analysis stumbles on what we already know about gender bias in academia, then stupidly advises that the key to women’s success is to avoid female mentors and instead align with privileged males. Who reviewed this? nature.com/articles/s4146…
Went on a walk, fogged up my glasses, and found this :)
