Cold water shock can affect those who enter water intentionally. If you are taking part in leisure activities: ✨Check weather and conditions before entering the water. ✨Wear a wetsuit or drysuit and personal floatation device appropriate to the activity.

Video from Saltoun wood in East Lothian. Several ponds teeming with life (amphibians, dragonflies, damselflies & much more). I could have sat for hours watching the action! @EdinburghNats @ELCrangers @froglifers @UKAmphibians

Large red damselfly from Saltoun wood in East Lothian. For once, instead of landing on a drab green leaf or even worse a dirt path, this beauty chose a colourful flower! @ScotlandBds @EdinburghNats @ELCrangers @BBCSpringwatch #damselfly

Stunning four spotted chaser at Saltoun wood in East Lothian. Local told me numbers have increased in last few days. I saw circa 12 but vastly outnumbered by hundreds of large red damselflies. @ScotlandBds @EdinburghNats @ELCrangers @BBCSpringwatch #dragonfly

Great to get out with @ELCrangers this morning to learn about invasive species along the river Esk, and optimum technique for ‘bashing’ Himalayan balsam (and importantly, when to give it a wide berth: if it’s growing next to giant hogweed). Thanks Kristian for the demo!
