We have got lots of new followers recently so we would like to tell those of you who don't know who we are and what we do. We are the 'East Ayrshire Coalfield Environment Initiative', a tiny (but mighty) environmental restoration and improvement charity. 1/4

Your kindness can kill a bumblebee 💔 📢 Please share! Bumblebee queens are starting to emerge from hibernation. British weather isn’t always ideal and people with the best intentions can cause more harm good. Let’s change that. 🧵1/5

This is a huge issue for post industrial and mining communities. We are proud to be working with excellent community groups who are tackling this challenge. Big shout out to @cumnock_new for some superb work in this area.

In 2022, Scotland had 3,277 vacant sites, spanning 9,500 hectares - the equivalent to 13,322 football fields 🗺️ Reclaiming these areas for housing and community spaces could help combat climate change, enhance well-being, boost the economy, and improve community resilience 🏘️

This is a fantastic project and we have already opened discussions to see how we can support it. Muirkirk is a great community where a dedicated and experienced group of volunteers are driving change. theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/f…

Yo @CoalfieldCLP we are in here!

People around Scotland are doing more than ever to help save threatened bees, moths, and hoverflies, according to a new NatureScot report. This swarm of support is much needed at a time when many pollinator species are facing declines. Read the story ➡️ orlo.uk/854h4

We have another blog from our artist in residence Morag. Braiding, bog bonding and breathing, and connecting with plants on the outskirts of the bog like broom - it's all here, including lovely poetry. A great lunch break read! peatlandconnections.com/post/braiding-…

Really helpful for small landowners who are looking at restoring Peatland.

Restoring peatland on your land improves water quality, flood management, enhances biodiversity & more! Watch our video with @PeatlandAction & @IUCNpeat to learn where to start, access funding & how to register your project under the Peatland Code: youtu.be/tj6DLPUYdRk

There are many hidden gems to the Ayrshire coalfield. We'll start highlighting them properly over the next few weeks. But if you want a coffee and a cookie (and who doesn't) Plakous Cafe in New Cumnock is outstanding.

We will be in New Cumnock today doing HR and admin stuff, drop by New Cumnock Town Hall for a cup of tea if you wish.

Oooft check you out @NewCumnockPS!

🌱 @cumnock_new, which is regenerating the town to boost the economy & social conditions, with a focus on sustainable development. The Minister heard about how £182K from the #CommunityOwnershipFund is helping refurbish the Trotters building, giving new life to a derelict site.

The team has a shared album simply called '#peatlands and water' which, as you can imagine, has a lot of photos... but this one in particular feels somehow poetic!
