Long shadows as autumn passively yields to winter. Wrap up warm if you're coming for a visit.
We are now on @bluesky if you’d like to follow us there too. Our content will be the same but we don’t want to lose touch if you’re switching or closing down your X account. bsky.app/profile/duxfor…
Wonderful light this week in the quiet church. Why not visit and see for yourself?
A #FlashbackFriday picture of St John's at its most vulnerable in the mid 20th century. Thankfully, our story ended happily with vesting in @TheCCT but the need for conservation is ongoing and not every church is so lucky. To donate to us visit bit.ly/31Vj601
The Hinkledux service for All Souls begins at St John’s at 5pm. Still time to come along. All welcome.

St. John’s, Duxford, Cambridgeshire holds a particular appeal for anyone interested in wall paintings. Fragments of paintings cover most of the walls. Duxford village itself is well worth a visit, so is the nearby @I_W_M St. Johns is open daily 10-6pm: visitchurches.org.uk/visit/church-l…

Our annual bespoke fly-by from The Red Arrows yesterday!
Just wrapped up my sketch of @DuxfordStJohns 🎨 Still finding my way with watercolour, but enjoying every step of the journey.
With walls of flint and pebble and clunch the charming little medieval church of @DuxfordStJohns has a rare and singular beauty, not withstanding its 'unicorn' spire twisted into a delicate equilibrium by a bygone storm.
Never underestimate an open door, regardless of what you find on the other side. After 150 years of disuse, St John's is now more welcoming than ever, so take the chance to step inside and explore. You may end up loving what you see.
Beauty comes from the most unexpected places. The old nave floor of @DuxfordStJohns hovered under the spell of storm light. For a moment, in the dancing light, the floor was liquid, shimmering - ripples of time caught in the encaustic.
The great Andy Marshall paid us a visit! If you don’t already follow Andy, and love beautiful photos and art of historic places, make it your mission to do so today!
Our warmest thanks to Accorde Chamber Choir for their beautiful concert yesterday. With 22 singers in an unusually-shaped church they adapted well to the space and amply filled the church with song. A brand new season of concerts will resume in summer 2025.
Huge thanks to Accorde Chamber Choir for their beautiful concert at St John’s yesterday. Music will return in summer 2025!
It's concert day! Finzi, Gjeilo, Tavener, Tsavdar, Purcell, Rutter, Stanford, Stroope, Debussy, Powell, Whitacre and Chatman all await you at 3pm. Admission free. Yes, it's wet, but don't sit at home feeling glum, come and experience something uplifting!
