Or not falling short at all; your potential is your best. Ergo, your best meets God’s standard because that’s the way He made you. Any talk of Christian ethics makes no sense in a society that accepts everyone’s individual standard of right and wrong.

Good missional theology and practice believes that wherever we go, God has already been working. We don't bring God anywhere. Rather, we discover through prayer and conversation where God has been at work.

a sadly necessary reminder: a true statement uttered by somebody you really don’t like is still true. A false statement uttered by somebody you really like is still false.

Happy 121st anniversary to the Supreme Court! Should we subtract 6 of your years, since you seem to have forgotten that there was a Chief Justice from 2012 to 2018? You can choose to rewrite your institutional history and blot her out, but we remember.

On a rare serious note for me: Amen. Your point is a critically important one. Most evangelical biblical interpreters are unduly influenced by modernist interpretive methods. The corrective isn't postmodern methods but rather ancient Christian ones.

Theology 101: The presupposition that a passage can have only one intended meaning does not fit with Scripture’s own reading of itself. Purely human writings can have intended double or even triple entendres. Why would this be ruled out—a priori—for divine-human writings?
