Let’s be crystal clear about something: Private pay therapists aren’t unwilling to take insurance Insurance companies are unwilling to pay the cost of therapy

At least twice a day I see some tweet about diet, exercise, or sleep with a statement like “what your therapist won’t tell you” But therapists aren’t hiding that these things help with overall mental health, we just won’t eat, move, or sleep for you

How many Freudians does it take to screw in a lightbulb? Two, but I don’t know how you’re gonna get them inside a lightbulb

Two social workers see a guy stabbed and bleeding to death on the street. One says to the other: “The person who did this needs help!”

The idea that a “chemical imbalance” (a la serotonin deficiency) serves as *the* rationale for clinical use of antidepressants is simply false, has been repeatedly shown to be false, & anyone still saying so is either misinformed or an ideologue unwilling to give up their shtick

Do not confuse the role-play culture of online bloggers and middle managers who learned to parrot highly focus group-tested psych jargon with what an individual can develop and achieve with real psychotherapy

This reminds me, Analyze This and That are great movies 😂

You're treating a patient who is part of organized crime. The patient states that he wants to "get out of the game" (he is sincere rg this) but doesn't know how, he feels helpless and hopeless. Getting out of the game will put him and his family in great danger of...

One of the worst traps of taking on a diagnosis as an identity (such as Autistic, cPTSD, or even outdated ones like Neurotic) is treating all your traits as immutable. You can’t change history or the physical structure of the brain, but there is a lot you can do.

I sometimes see a weird comparison between therapists and priests, probably because of an overlap in scope of counseling but neither priests nor therapists make this comparison I have a priest. Priests have therapists. I get referrals from priests.

> therapy is invented > 120 years pass > everyone's more anxious, neurotic, and depressed than even before how did this happen?

I hate that this isn’t the weirdest thing I’ve seen on the red line

Is there an age divide on who wants to win tonight or is it unanimously baked into our collective unconscious to want to see an old champ beat up a YouTuber?
