If America isn't where software companies are built, another country will be Section 174 of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act kills startup software companies in this country. EVERY industry needs competitive software. blog.pragmaticengineer.com/section-174/ #software #startups #Senate #tech
When you view the news as a person, you realise how toxic it is.
Hi I’m looking for a new job. Can someone please hire me.
For those considering economic impacts of Atlanta's water main breaks and outages, consider that sales taxes generate about $140 million for the city annually - about $380,000 a day - on sales of about $3.5 billion, or $9.6 million a day.
Stumbled across this article today. Thank you for sharing GoalSumo, Inox Vale! Simple and sweet write up! inoxvale.com/2024/04/19/goa…
Another letter to the Senate urging them to fix R&D amortization by passing the tax bill. "While U.S. R&D spending tumbled in 2023, China's super-deduction yielded an 8.1% increase in R&D spending over the same time period." @SenateGOP, please read! taxnotes.com/research/feder…
New icons for Homegrown! They're made using my new icon generation system, which takes in a 3D model of the item and turns it into a cute cel-shaded icon. #gamedev
I want to congratulate @NWilliams_STrib for being the first reporter I'm aware of to mention the deleterious impact of Section 174 in an article about tech layoffs. It's been under-discussed and I'm glad to see a reporter finally get this right. startribune.com/after-hiring-b…
🚨 LAYOFF ALERT - Connecticut 🇺🇸 Bionano Genomics, Inc. will layoff 76 remote employees in Connecticut on May 24, 2024 as indicated in a Connecticut WARN notice. 𝕏 @bionano
I just gave some really bad news to a client for their estimate based on this stupid bill not passing. It's absurd that it's come to this.
My nanomanufacturing company submitted a Statement for the Record for the congressional hearing on manufacturing and the tax code. I hope my senators @SenThomTillis and @SenTedBuddNC will read our statement to understand why HR 7024 is needed by small manufacturers like us.
100s of founders have heard from HR 7024 advocates today. If you too would like to participate in raising awareness, reply to this post.
I have a major new report out with @kpomerleau (who did the heavy lifting) in which we propose two revenue neutral and pro-growth proposals vs *current law* to make the TCJA permanent. 🧵 aei.org/wp-content/upl…
Senators, repeal the innovation tax. These states stand to lose hundreds of millions of dollars and jobs if HR 7024 tax reform isn't passed. Make it happen! evagarland.com/wp-content/upl… @MikeCrapo @SenateGOP @SenToddYoung #section174
You have an opportunity to pass a bill, Smith-Wyden, that ends fraud AND saves thousands of businesses from bankruptcy. I fail to see how doing two good things is worse than doing just one. Repeal the innovation tax and pass Smith-Wyden.
STOP DEFERRING! Dear GOP Senators, you are in office to vote for the best policies for your constituents. Not to pander to one individual. Afraid you’ll lose your job if you cross him? What about if you bankrupt a chunk of your voters? This isn’t about you. Grow up. #section174
Interesting take from conservative think tanker @RyanLEllis, who knows many R senate staff: Most Senate Rs support the bill but are deferring to Crapo, who doesn’t like bill for reasons that aren’t very legible.
The sad thing is, if Crapo just stood down this bill would pass 80-20. I know. I’ve met with the majority of the GOP offices. They are merely deferring to Crapo. It’s a personality objection getting in the way of sound tax policy, which should never happen with Republicans.
It’s odd to see the US regulators shooting its own tech industry in the foot by mandating developer salaries cannot be expensed the same year they are paid - but need to be amortized over 5 years (15 when hiring abroad). Even more odd is how little this problem is talked about.
The news about the Tax Relief bill is not good. We need people in tech--employees not just business owners--need to call their senators ask them to pass HR 7024. If it doesn't pass, there will be a lot more layoffs this spring.
