I married an incredibly intelligent person. Congrats Dr. Johnson! If you like LA, grab this book to learn how it was built by (surprise) power gatekeeping, stoking ignorant fears of humans, and monied manipulation framed by carefully curated rhetoric about imagined futures.
It's my book release day: A Connected Metropolis is officially available! Thank you so much to @UnivNebPress and my fantastic editor, @BridgetRBarry! @IUBHistory nebraskapress.unl.edu/nebraska/97814…

Spoiler alert: it’s a structural issue that can be managed by reimagining and restructuring leadership. “We often falsely equate confidence [of] white male leaders... with competence and leadership.” Stop Telling Women They Have Imposter Syndrome hbr.org/2021/02/stop-t…
Most of what gets shared as heartwarming stories are usually temporary, small-scale responses to systemic failures. I wish we found it just as inspirational to make structural changes to unjust systems, but I don’t know if our culture knows how to tell those stories.
"Just-is isn't always justice" "We will raise this wounded world" "There is only light if we are brave enough to be it" - Amanda Gorman, first ever National Youth Poet Laureate
Reflections on Jan.6 attempted white nationalist coup: We must guard against false symmetries here. This was an orchestrated riot in defense of a reigning and waning tyrant & white supremacist. It is in no way akin 2 protests demanding justice and resisting racism and oppression.
Today has shown police don’t need de-escalation training, they choose who to escalate on, that’s not a training issue. Police don’t need unconscious bias training, they are conscious of their bias.
Keeping this on the radar. A brilliant speech from a brilliant young woman. facebook.com/10001218904495…
