Well, I can officially announce I’ve received an NSF CAREER award to do my life’s work. “Designing, Developing, and Evaluating Consent Technologies to Reduce Unwanted Interpersonal Behavior.” Excited to do this work at @UMFlint! nsf.gov/awardsearch/sh…

With #cscw2024 now behind us, I can say my favorite memory was watching @mah_alizadeh present her work about algorithmic harms on Tinder. She’s worked so hard on this research, and we finally had the opportunity to celebrate it in Costa Rica!

One of my favorite #CSCW2024 presentations! @DZytko did an excellent job presenting their work on user interactions with risk detection #AI to prevent online-to-offline harm in #dating apps. Check out their fantastic research: dl.acm.org/doi/abs/10.114…

One of my favorite collaborations is being published at @ACM_CSCW next month about perceived algorithmic harms and folk theories on Tinder. Really enjoyed working with Mahla and Motahhare on this paper! Pre-print: dougzytko.com/research/CSCW_…

3 of our undergrad researchers at @UMFlint have their first poster publication at @ACM_CSCW next month on social cross-reality harm in VR dating. Harm within VR is well documented, but what about harm that traverses VR into the physical world? Pre-print: dougzytko.com/research/Tebbe…

Proud of @IshaD_pickle for her first 1st-author paper at CSCW next month! She used participatory model building of risk detection AI with online daters and found that women want…biased and subjective AI assessment of risk??? Pre-print: dougzytko.com/research/CSCW_…

I’ve officially accepted the responsibility of Director of Graduate Studies for @UMFlint's College of Innovation & Technology. In this role I’ll be guiding initiatives to ensure that our graduate programs are the most industry-responsive offerings, bar none. @UMF_CIT

Been two weeks since the first cohort of our @NSF REU site on digital accessibility ended and I think…this hand painted portrait of my pug Goblin is the greatest gift I’ve ever received. We look at it everyday in our living room!

Our @NSF REU site on Digital Accessibility is...halfway over??? Having a blast spending time with these emerging undergrad researchers.

My PhD student Emma is giving her FIRST talk ever at an HCI conference today (Wednesday) at #chi2024 in the 11AM session on online toxicity. If you study trauma, sexual violence, online dating, or data donation…come on out!

The HCI community often researches #trauma, but how do we design technologies that are trauma-informed? Our #CHI2024 paper delves into our trauma-informed design approach for a sexual violence data donation platform. Paper: dougzytko.com/research/Zheng…

It took 2+ years, but whoever finally got the paper award symbols to show up on CSCW 2021 papers in the ACM Digital Library is my hero.

My students submitted to this workshop the other day. VERY cool topic. Any harm and/or XR researchers should check this out. Workshops are a GREAT way to meet others with similar research interests.

Come to join our awesome #CHI2024 workshop on new harms in immersive and embodied virtual Spaces! Just submit a short position statement by February 29, 2024! Website: sites.google.com/view/chi-2024-…

Delighted to see our NSF HCC-funded research shared with disciplines beyond HCC! Our grad student @emwalquist presented our research on sexual violence in online dating at #AAFS2024, the largest conference of the forensic science community.
