Fantastic to see some examples of how Computing Science impacts other areas of the curriculum being highlighted. Yet CS compared to the other traditional STEM subjects has the worst overall uptake, largest gender gap, least amount of teachers. #SaveComputingScience @codeorg
Interesting ideas how #CompSci can influence other curricular areas from @olliebray at the #CompSciConf24
Progress that should be celebrated but likely unsustainable with important context. - CS has lowest number of teachers since records began. - highest age demographic compared to traditional STEM subjects. - least number of places to train as a CS teacher. #SaveComputingScience
With the different @SQAComputing awards we have in Scotlands schools today #compsci numbers across schools are doing well #CompSciConf24 #stem #compsciedu
"Closing the gender gap in the tech industry isn’t an overnight task, but by putting tangible actions into place & being accountable, businesses across Scotland can make significant progress." Yet CS is not yet a core subject & no equity of access. #SaveComputingScience
Encouraging women into the Scottish tech sector. Despite growing demand for talent, women remain significantly underrepresented, making up only 23 per cent of the digital workforce, writes Sheila Flavell CBE ⬇️ futurescot.com/encouraging-wo…
The small progress that has been made will inevitably be undone if we don't address the recruitment & retention of CS teachers. Lack of CS teachers means lack of access in a subject that is yet to be a core subject & already has no equity of access. #SaveComputingScience
"CS uptake at school remains an issue for employers who are concerned about the relatively low numbers of young people participating, & the decline in CS teachers." Great to see this being recognised in the recent report. #SaveComputingScience skillsdevelopmentscotland.co.uk/media/4z3dkfbx…
Fantastic to hear other countries taking action with CS at grassroots level seriously. CS in Scotland is yet to be a core subject & does not have equity of access schools. Compared to traditional STEM subjects it has the largest gender gap & worst uptake. #SaveComputingScience
At a recent @UNESCO event, I learned that Armenia, Brazil, China, Singapore, and S. Korea are all advancing AI literacy. What do they have in common? Computer science (CS) is already mandatory. Yet, only 11 US states have a CS graduation requirement. AI literacy builds on…
"Computer Science is a driving force behind things like movies, animations & even games" @chrishemsworth CS in Scotland is not yet a core subject & no equity of access. Compared to other traditional STEM subjects has the largest gender gap & worst uptake. #SaveComputingScience
#TransformersOne - only in theatres September 20! Code.org has teamed up with them to offer a fun and easy-to-learn coding activity for 2nd-8th graders. #TransformersOne isn't just an action-packed movie, it's a gateway to coding awesomeness, but don’t take it from…
“But the challenge we have is that we don’t have the people to fill the roles that 78 per cent of our sector needs. We need to continue to create a pipeline of talent.” Yet CS is not a core subject, no equity of access, least amount of CS teachers ever! #SaveComputingScience
Last week, @TheScotsman featured an interview with our CEO @karenmeechan on the state of the #tech sector. Karen speaks to the future of the industry in Scotland, potential for #AI & #space, if we can crack the #skills gap and invest in #SMEs. Read more! scotsman.com/business/scotl…
Computing Science at school compared to other traditional STEM subjects has the largest gender gap and has done for over a decade! Initiatives like @adascot are so important. Festival starts tomorrow. #ClosingTheGenderGap #SaveComputingScience

"This gap...stems largely from a lack of CS teachers which threatens to undermine Scotland’s future tech workforce. “We are not delivering enough,” ...ddressing this shortage is critical to preventing “disaster in the coming years.” #SaveComputingScience
At the opening keynote of this year’s ScotSoft, Joe Little, honorary professor at the University of Stirling and senior advisor to the chief futurist at Deloitte, gave a 10-year view of genAI’s proliferation. Read more here. 👇 buff.ly/4gK4wOW #Tech | #News | #ScotSoft
"New IoT campus to make Glasgow ‘largest smart things hub in Europe’ " Yet CS in Scotland is not taught in every secondary school. Compared to traditional STEM subjects it has the worst uptake, largest gender gap, lowest amount of CS teachers on record. #SaveComputingScience

CS, compared to traditional STEM subjects, still has: - worst uptake - largest gender gap - lowest number of teachers - least places to train as a teacher - not yet a core subject - no equity of access #SaveComputingScience

Some positives in this years CS results. Recruitment of CS teachers remains a real concern with lowest on record & lowest number coming into profession. CS teachers have a direct impact on equity of access. #SaveComputingScience

We are excited to share the interactive dashboard of the public data on CS uptake, gender & teacher numbers from 1986 onwards. This project was created with the support of the @ScotTechArmy & their incredible volunteers! dtecharter.org/subject-statis… #SaveComputingScience
Great message by @GlasgowPam recognising importance of CS at schools, starting from early years to secondary & beyond, the gender gap but most importantly thanking the hard working teachers for the work they do daily! Particularly with @UKThankATeacher celebrations this week.
Last year we had the honour of having @hadip kick off our #STACSVirtualFestival. This year we are delighted to have @GlasgowPam share a message to teachers delivering CS! This was greatly received & the support by @SP_ECYP committee. Watch message below. #ByTeachersForTeachers
Really disappointing to see this outcome again for Computing Science. CS in Scotland is not yet a core subject, and compared to traditional STEM subjects, it has the largest gender gap, the worst uptake, and least number of teachers. #SaveComputingScience
Well done to Louisiana! This is great to see. In Scotland CS is not yet a core subject & compared to traditional STEM subjects it has the largest gender gap the worst uptake & least amount of teachers & least amount of places to train. #SaveComputingScience
🎓Louisiana just became the 10th state in the nation to make #computerscience a graduation requirement! Thanks Gov. Jeff Landry for signing & reps like @RepJasonHughes & Sen. @TAPressly for championing this! Every student deserves a shot at a tech future! ✨ Learn more…
We've had this talk before, we now need full action from gov level down on CS. With current finances in councils there is no point saying they must improve provision. Gov must fund, push CS from early primary and support with time/£ staffing/proper checks in all high schools.
