I wear this to protect myself, and people I care about. There are a whole lot of people I don't care about very much. When I wear this, it protects them too. But only a tiny little bit. Interesting for me to think about, and for them to think about. A🧵

This, so crucial:

Person first language for fat people (ie: person w/ ob*sity) is not anti-stigma language. It's a tool of the weight loss industry -part of their ultimate goal of having just existing in a fat body be seen as a lifelong health condition (requiring expensive, lifelong "treatment")

I’m excited to share that I have a Summer Scholarship opportunity 🥳 During PhD it was evident that COVID-19 impacted many Pacific communities' ability to partake in funerary rituals due to restrictions, which meant many Pac families were unable to collectively grieve. /1

Excellent 'cleanser' for the day - needs sound on - you wont regret it!

A great article from @marcdaalder Important to have clarity about these gaps in the NZ Government response to Long Covid. For such a tiny country there is a great pool of expertise and lots of goodwill to help develop a country-level LC strategy. 1/2 newsroom.co.nz/2024/04/02/hea…

Hey @MichieBrian can you DM me - its Lez who used to be primary care manager - looking for your best email :)

It is fitting that as we approach the second anniversary of our dear Cat Pausé's passing, our latest paper, citing Cat's work is published: Sizing Up General Practice Environments for Big-Bodied Patients journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/19…

Great to see that waist to height ratio gets mentioned again in the press. Even mentions me and my string test! thetimes.co.uk/article/how-im…

Just published today - a moot to promote debate and discussion: Prompting lifestyle interventions to promote weight loss is safe, effective and patient-centred: No publish.csiro.au/HC/HC23163

I hope everyone evacuated from Grindavik is safe and being well cared for - that is massive...

JUST IN: First aerial footage captured just minutes ago of the newly opened volcanic fissure near Grindavík, Iceland. It is estimated to be about 3 km long!

I cannot stress enough how concerning #LongCovid looks: + immune/vascular/neuro/cardiac disease + prolonged symptoms + whole number % risk per infection + reinfections = Sequelae def at the higher end of the risk band compared w/ other common infections. = High cost of inaction.

I did a thing... got promoted to Associate Professor, one of 22 across the whole of the University of Otago this year...over the moon, thanks to my colleagues and referees, collaborators near and far

So sad to hear of the passing of Doc Tom Mulholland today (NZ)

I have no natural hearing at all. Cochlear implantation has been absolutely life-transforming for me and so many others. Thank you @scip_ci for the amazing work you do to reconnect us with people, work, music, birdsong... all the ways we experience identity, meaning, belonging.
