🚨 Now in ASQ! An intersectional look at women leaders' use of dominant language—and backlash for it. White women use more dominant language than men in Congress + on Twitter, but Black women & Latinas are punished for dominance by journalists and voters. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/00…
New 📝 alert! In a field experiment with 1000+ psych PhD students, we find that students use more racial modifiers when communicating about Black samples vs. White samples. But we also find that policies regulating sample reporting can reduce this bias. tinyurl.com/2s49tdb8
Excited to share a new paper, with @mags_perry, Cinoo Lee & Jennifer Eberhardt! Out now in Scientific Reports: Observers of social media discussions about racial discrimination condemn denial but also adopt it. A thread nature.com/articles/s4159…
I think what she’s doing is performing humility & deference to his leadership & governing experience. It paints her as a non-dominant team player, tryna assuage past concerns about her being too ambitious & egocentric. Saying governor doesn’t do that. See @CydneyDupree’s OpEd!
Of all Walz’s titles, it’s interesting VP Harris keeps referring to him as “Coach” instead of “Governor”
In a recent conversation with the @latimes , #UCLSoM Associate Professor @CydneyDupree addressed the media backlash mocking #KamalaHarris & her speaking style, suggesting that it can in fact be used to her advantage 📈 Read more ➡️ow.ly/VFHr50SQ0X4 #USElection2024
Writing in the @latimes, Dr @CydneyDupree @UCLSoM @UCLEngineering says: “Considering how accomplished she is, judging Kamala Harris as unserious or incompetent because she chooses to project warmth would be foolish.” latimes.com/opinion/story/…
Inspiring to see such an important topic explored through a range of disciplines and evidence, including #MgmtTwitter research. Hopefully folks integrate these findings into their own workplace practices.
Now in the LA Times. In which I argue that Kamala Harris' choice to speak with warmth (rather than dominance) can help her win the presidency by avoiding the backlash that Black women so often face for dominant behavior. latimes.com/opinion/story/…

There will be a lot of reporters writing about race and gender over the next many weeks. There are folks who spend lots of time thinking about these topics. Talk to them! Here’s a thread with lots of names for journalists to contact for stories and discussions.
Can we do a quick thread of women of color studying race, gender, & politics for journalists following here? A lesson for journalists: political science is a big field. Most of us aren't experts on gender. Some are. A few to start: @BrownPhDGirl, @Jamil_Scott_, @JennMJacksonPhD
It’s about to get ugly, turbulent. Buckle up. Practice self-care
My deep sense of foreboding only deepens.
🚨Hey y'all! @bkeithpayne and I are hiring a co-lab manager to work with us at @UNCPsych starting this Fall! Please spread the word among your networks, especially to applicants interested in social psych, structural racism and inequality. unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/284181
Our latest paper, in PNAS, makes a case for studying what makes people travel to neighborhoods racially different from their own. Maybe some places help counter residential segregation. We found some surprises 1/ pnas.org/doi/abs/10.107…
Please read this incredible (and mixed-method!) new paper by @britttorrez @CydneyDupree @mwkraus -- I am so excited that this essential work is out in the world.
new important work by @britttorrez @CydneyDupree @mwkraus read the paper, (or this 🧵at a minimum), esp. non-marginalized scholars. given what we know about how homophily in networks functions, this work provides crucial perspective often missing from academic discourse
Congrats @britttorrez and @CydneyDupree! Objectivity interrogation of racial scholarship in psychology and management
New paper alert! 🥳 We study intersectional stereotypes in naturalistic language. Results show the clear dominance of some groups (e.g., White+men), but near-invisibility of others. 🧐 Out today in PNAS:Nexus @PNASNews academic.oup.com/pnasnexus/arti…
We are hiring! Come and work at @Cambridge_Uni @CambPsych! We are looking for a full-time Teaching Associate to work with me to help lead our social psychology teaching, research, & examining. Please share and apply! jobs.cam.ac.uk/job/46197/
As we strive towards a more equitable future, Dupree’s research reminds us of the importance of embracing intersectionality in our efforts to support and empower women leaders across all racial backgrounds. #UCL #UCLSoM #Research #IWD
