Chris and I are very proud to announce that the 14th edition of Methods in Behavioral Research is available! We thought that it would be useful to tell people about what we've done this time around. Take a look! mheducation.com/highered/produ… 1/6

Rest in Peace Dr. Ross. "The Intuitive Psychologist and His Shortcomings" was an important paper in my development as a psychologist. nytimes.com/2021/06/16/sci…

This strikes me as a wonderful example of positive pedagogy (of course, it's tough to scale :D).

Warning: Sentimentality ahead I'm not someone who publishes papers in Nature. I'm just not. And it's not just this paper, of course. This is just the thing that caused me to reflect on my life and how absolutely bonkers this all still is for me. So, I thought I would share.

🚨Out now in Nature!🚨 A fundamentally new way of fighting misinfo online: Surveys+field exp w >5k Twitter users show that gently nudging users to think about accuracy increases quality of news shared- bc most users dont share misinfo on purpose nature.com/articles/s4158… 1/

I need to be intentional: to engage on equity, diversity, and inclusivity as it’s my responsibility as a educator, and as a middle-aged, cis-gender, white dude. Putting this in my methods lecture is a way.

"The experiment is calling out the higher-education elite, who have long maintained that the underrepresentation of students from underserved communities at their institutions is a problem of preparation that is beyond their control." 🔥🔥🔥 @EricaLG

✨New paper!✨Among 6-11yos, biological-essentialist explanations for weight reduce weight bias, & behavioral explanations exacerbate it, on a friendship preference task. Ft. essentialism in an unusual role as the "good guy" wrt kids' prejudice! doi.org/10.1111/cdev.1…

Serious and "today relevant" fodder for the hypothesis game--What are your hypotheses? How would we test that? The methods course is about skills, and moving from making hypotheses to making solid strategies to test hypotheses is a key one to nurture (with practice, natch).

35% of Americans say they will definitely get vaccinated against COVID-19 and 13% say they have already received the vaccine. apnorc.org/projects/safet…

I don't know how, but I'm certainly going to use @FiveThirtyEight 's analysis of "233 Super Bowl ads" from the last 20 years in my methods course: projects.fivethirtyeight.com/super-bowl-ads/. H/T to the always excellent Data is Plural: tinyletter.com/data-is-plural

Psychology is more gender-balanced than economics (though not in all subdisciplines, I'm looking at you, experimental psych, and you too, quantitative psych!). It would still be interesting to see this replicated in psych. And for BIPOC psychologists, too. insidehighered.com/news/2021/02/0…

Low hanging (discussion) fruit alert! Great stuff for a discussion of measurement and surveys, of course, but also for a discussion about how behavioral science can be used to understand our world.

This USC tracking poll is a useful resource for tracking how much people are modifying their behavior as a result of COVID. The orange line, for instance, shows how many people say they're staying at home except for essential activities; currently ~45-50%. covid19pulse.usc.edu

Just in case anybody wants to go VERY "meta" in their zoom-based research methods course, this would certainly do the trick!
