President-elect Donald Trump sided with union longshore workers in their standoff with employers over the deployment of port automation technology. freightwaves.com/news/trump-bac…
Trump comes out strongly against port automation.
Alright, everyone back to your regularly scheduled supply chain chaos
🚨 ILA Oulines Key Demands To End Port Strike 🚨 🔹 Wages: $20/hour for handling multi-million-dollar equipment? ILA says it’s barely above minimum wage in some states. They want more. 🔹 Job Security: Robots taking their jobs? No automation, no negotiation. The ILA stands firm…
The East Coast port strike enters its second day. @typesfast, founder and CEO of @flexport, talks about how things are going, and how long it could take for consumers to feel the pain. @thehill @NewsNation #happeningonthehill
I give it an 80% chance the port strike gets resolved this week. And 15% chance it goes more than a month.
I got to use the @pmarca line about digging holes with a spoon on Fox News this morning foxnews.com/video/63627154…
East/Gulf Coast Longshoreman Union President on a Potential Strike: "I Will Cripple You!" youtu.be/hr-isyMV1y8
The Teamsters tells Biden to “stay the f**k out of this fight” in their statement of solidarity with the ILA. When did organizations start using curse words in their official press releases? T minus 54 minutes to the port strike…
The ILA is not answering questions, only reiterating why they’re going on strike. Brief comment tonight from Bernie ODonnell, international Vice President for the union’s New England area. @NBC10Boston
The ILA has been demanding a 77% pay increase, so if true this seems like a pretty big concession in the first 6 hours of the strike. The employers offered 50% yesterday before the strike started, so we might be close to a deal.
ILA PRESIDENT: UNION WANTS 61.5% PAY INCREASE - CNBC
It’s official. The East and Gulf Coast ports of the United States of America are on strike. The ILA hasn’t announced a port strike (I keep furiously refreshing their Facebook page) but picket lines are now visible on the gate cameras: bistatemotorcarriers.com/terminal-gatec…
A 30-70% increase in cost of labor would tank most businesses. But ports are a monopolist, so all the cost increases will get passed on to the carriers who pass it on to the merchants who pass it on to you, the consumer.
Dockworkers at the port of Montreal (different union apparently) just went on strike a day before the ILA over totally separate issues… montreal.ctvnews.ca/port-of-montre…
When FB is the best place for news about the port strike (it’s happening)
Interesting article quoting the Georgia Ports Authority CEO today. “I would think we should expect four to five days, and hopefully not beyond that.” newsweek.com/georgia-port-d…
"On October 1, a significant monkey wrench may be thrown into the entire U.S. economy. The International Longshoremen's Association ("ILA"), North America's largest maritime workers' union, is preparing to go on strike if a new contract can't be reached with the U.S. Maritime…
The East and Gulf Coast ports are bracing for a dock worker strike that could bring major implications for the US economy and consumers, especially when it comes to inflation. Flexport founder @typesfast discusses:
🌊 Global Logistics Market Updates 🌊 📌1/ More U.S. East and Gulf Coast ports are extending their operating hours in anticipation of a potential ILA work stoppage on October 1 as part of their contingency plans.
I just dug into the legal mechanism by which the Biden Administration can intervene to prevent the port strike. No way they can pull this off in time to avert the strike next Tuesday. It’s too late. The strike is happening. The remaining variable is how long will it last. 🧵
