In total in 2020, 105 species of bird were seen on Hampstead Heath including: Crossbill, Cuckoo, Marsh Harrier, Mealy Redpoll, Pied Flycatcher, Ring Ouzel, Hawfinch, Golden Plover, Firecrest, Bullfinch & many others! Well done everyone!🥳 (will add the full summary to my blog)

A solid two days of migration on Hampstead Heath which has included Pied Flycatcher, 5 Common Redstart, 4 Tree Pipit & 2 Spot Fly personally. Overall we had 8 Redstart all together yesterday!

Birding kinda fell apart after September this year but still managed a decent year with 90 something species locally & 166 overall with White Tailed Eagle, Glossy Ibis and self-found Grasshopper Warbler & Black Redstart among the highlights,

70 Fieldfare, 150 Redwing, Brambling, 100+ Chaffinch, 30 Siskin, 2 Redpoll, 4 Meadow Pipit & a single flock of 200+ thrushes (or starling) too far out to ID from Parliament hill this morning


Several hundred starling moving NW over Parliament Hill this morning plus 2 Redpoll S, 12 Siskin N, Brambling N, 70 Chaffinch, 60 Redwing & a meadow pipit. Still a fairly slow autumn....


6-8 Brambling, 150 Redwing, 2 Skylark N, 5 Meadow Pipit, 15 Chaffinch & 70 Goldfinch Parliament hill this morning


Slightly annoyed I couldn’t go for the Desert Wheatear out in Kent but a few nice bits of autumn migration on Parliament Hill anyways: Skylarks, 3 Pochard (my 3rd record), Redpoll, Siskins, Pipits and the long staying Cetti’s warbler


Stonechat, Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Lesser Whitethroat, 2 Willow Warbler and several more Hirundines today’s highlights

Spotted Flycatcher, heard only Tree Pipit, 40 Meadow Pipit heading N & large numbers of hirundines moving S until the cloud cleared off this morning. Whinchat, Cettis, a different Spot Fly & Stonechat also seen by others

Am going to try and bird Parliament Hill/Hampstead Heath every morning for the rest autumn to make up for lost time earlier in the year. Started today fairly slow with Spotted Flycatcher & 3 Grey Wagtail N
