We think it's important to be sensitive about how we talk about our experiences of mental ill-health to work to end stigmas and to enable supportive responses...our conversation card is designed to help this 👇
So proud to have officially graduated from @YorkStJohn with a first class honours degree in Occupational Therapy. I love everything about this profession and can’t wait to see where the next few years take me 💚🎓
We're getting ready to hold our first living library where our Champions with experience of mental ill-health will be borrowed for a myth busting conversation about what its like to live their life. We believe that honest and non-judgmental conversations can help end stigma📚🗣️
Today is #PoTSAwarenessDay. It often affects every part of our lives. Standing still and talking escalates my symptoms to the point of being close to fainting within seconds. I've had to learn to live my life very differently. Card from stickmancommunications.co.uk/product-catego… See also @UKPoTS

People cannot do “anything” they set their minds to, and it’s not quitting or being negative to accept that there are some things that people simply cannot do. There may be multiple reasons for that, and it doesn’t make them a failure.
🧵 Fear of being labelled with a personality disorder (PD) looks like getting chest pain when your psychologist comments that you got a new hair cut, because you're worried she will consider this a sign of "identity disturbance". 1/
EVERY single person I have provided care to who has a psychiatric diagnosis of 'Emotionally Unstable Personality Disorder ' - without exception - has a history of trauma It's heartbreaking 'EUPD' is the most stigmatized psych label & I completely understand why many reject it
‘How suicidal are you really if you’re asking for help?’ People die because they aren’t believed. Why not say ‘thank you for trusting me enough to tell me’ or ‘well done for speaking up when your head is screaming at you not to’. Words matter.
The fact I have challenged the diagnosis of EUPD is further proof to professionals that I have EUPD. There’s no winning, if you challenge it, it stays on your notes, if you don’t challenge it, it stays on your notes.
Never should a suicidal person, actively asking for help to keep alive, be told that 'you have capacity and we don't hold responsibility for your safety'. Just because someone has capacity, it should not exclude them from healthcare. There is still a duty of care to uphold.
Now if I have criteria 1-5 and you have criteria 5-9 that's us with the same diagnosis despite only sharing 1 criteria. What a nonsense this diagnosis is. The same label for wildly different presentations.
EXACTLY. Instead of focusing on keeping people out of hospital, let’s think about how unbearable someone’s situation must be that a psychiatric ward is preferable to being elsewhere
i think it’s important to remember that, as bad as psych wards are, sometimes people do ‘want’ to be in one because it’s safer than being alone with our own thoughts.
Only 20% of the population wouldn't have some element of personality disfunction. So disorder is the norm? 🤔 #BPDAwarenessMonth
It's #bpdawarenessmonth day 2. The usual guff about BPD and manipulation was all over the news last week. This is full of ideas to challenge that stereotype 👇 beamconsultancy.co.uk/the-blog/2020/…
May is #bpdawarenessmonth Here is a way of thinking about the BPD criteria without having to make out people are disordered. It's very different to how Amber Heard was talked about... beamconsultancy.co.uk/the-blog/2020/…
