For nine months, @grace_hauck & @IllinoisAnswers dug through thousands of pages of Illinois jail incident reports & built out a database of over 5,500 incidents involving restraint chairs between 2019-23, many an abuse of the "safety chair" itself. 🧵 illinoisanswers.org/2024/07/09/the…

Just stopped at a traffic light downtown in the @WGNNews truck. On one side of the street, a woman was flipping us off. On the other side, a shirtless man was slapping his gut & giving us a thumbs up. I can’t think of any better way to describe what it’s like to work in news.

Good morning from Brooklyn fed! Closing arguments are expected at 11:30 this morning in the trial against Ozy Media and CEO Carlos Watson. Prosecutors say Watson conspired to misrepresent the company's finances to investors. Stay tuned! @CourthouseNews

Thanks to Monsignor Jack Egan for bringing me to DePaul! Congrats to all our journalism grads! What a great day!!!

Nobody calls The Bean “Cloud Gate.” Nobody calls Sears Tower “Willis Tower.” Nobody calls Sox Park “Guaranteed Rate Field.” Nobody is going to call the Museum of Science & Industry “The Griffin Museum” of anything.

The Illinois House was in for about 25 minutes today. They passed one bill, @rep_nabeelasyed's HB 4476, which would require @IDPH to develop an awareness campaign about the dangers of mold and set up a registry for mold remediators (signing up is optional, though). #twill

Just go to a state school. The premium you're paying for elite private colleges vs. the better public schools is for social clout and not the quality of the education. And that's worth a lot less now that people have figured out that elite higher ed is cringe.

To the great folks who did the hard work of making the daily miracle happen, I am sad to see this terrible development, but I salute your great work over the years. Alden is taking away more Illinois jobs.

Proud to have colleagues like @ad_quig . This is why we do this 🧵

The past few days have been rough. Don’t get me wrong: I am exceedingly proud to stand next to my Tribune colleagues, whose talent, grit, and love for this city convinced me to work at the paper knowing full well who our owners were. Today’s strike was necessary.
