In a couple of centuries or so, I'm sure we'll see pictures like this in art history books to illustrate how our generation lost its aesthetic taste. We may be referred to as The Lost Ones. (Image from the #OdooExperience 2023 keynote, where this was presented.)

3 months ago I bought some products @madebygoogle directly at the @GoogleStore, returned 1 of them unopened. Still waiting for the refund. I asked @Google Support. Answer was they need access to my Google account and its data, or no refund. I see some room for improvement here.

The same is true for software companies. From DeMarco's and Lister's book Peopleware: "Two people from the same organization tend to perform alike. That means the best performers are clustering in some organizations while the worst performers are clustering in others."

Chrome was delivered without any sprints at all. The team came in at 9 and left at 5 (figuratively, people actually kept their own ~8h schedules) every workday for a couple years like clockwork. No drama. No broken marriages, no broken families.

Sadly, there were divorces and broken families and bad things that came out of that. But I also learned that even at a 20,000-person company, you can get a team of 100 people to work like their lives depend on it.

#GoogleIO2022 keynote is being held in an open-air stage 😍

Last year, I asked for code from a 1990 paper, and got it! I was stunned. Even wrote a post about it: ascl.net/wordpress/2021…
