Delighted to be attending #asmcf2023 virtually today. Listening in on the PGR panel now. Struck as always about the challenges shared by early career folks on both sides of the Atlantic.
“Universal masking policies distribute a small cost across society, rather than shifting the highest burdens of Covid-19 onto populations that have already been made vulnerable by structural racism and other inequities.” – editorial by @JuliaRaifman & @Tiffany_L_Green
biden outperformed expectations in the midterms, heres why thats bad news for joe biden

Our article on masking in schools to prevent covid is now officially published in @NEJM and free to read!! nejm.org/doi/full/10.10…
“Our results support universal masking as an important strategy for reducing Covid-19 incidence in schools and loss of in-person school days. As such, we believe that universal masking may be especially useful for mitigating effects of structural racism in schools”
For a guy who has been a Senator, Vice President and President, you've got to admit, @JoeBiden is probably the most consistently, repeatedly and unfairly underestimated political leader of our time.
For the love of God, pundits: Long voting lines aren’t enthusiasm. They’re suppression.
Dems lost votes of everyone over 40, like '20. +25 w/ 18-24 +32 w/ 25-29 +11 w/ 30-39 = is why we have Dem gov in PA, MI, WI & likely Dem Senate. While fear of MAGA was a factor, @POTUS deserves MUCH credit for keeping word/empowering youth. ☑️Student loans ☑️Climate ☑️Guns
One potential takeaway from tonight is that the US is a center left country with a gerrymandering problem. If republicans are going to turn in a historically poor midterm performance now in this moment, a lot of talking heads need to re-evaluate their priors on this stuff.
Mary Shelley did try to warn us about hubristic STEM bros who make strange, impulsive experiments and then watch helplessly as their creation destroys itself at the expense of ordinary people.

Yesterday was my last day at Twitter: the entire Human Rights team has been cut from the company. I am enormously proud of the work we did to implement the UN Guiding Principles on Business & Human Rights, to protect those at-risk in global conflicts & crises including Ethiopia,
Though few people know this, Twitter had a human rights team staffed by some world class lawyers & human rights thinkers. Under Musk's leadership, the *entire team* has been cut from the company.

Remember, when the fresh snow flies in your city, it reveals how much we’ve over-designed our streets for cars making them faster & more dangerous, and how much space we could reclaim for people & public life. We call them #sneckdowns. HT @fietsprofessor https://t.co/G1uDpOojKO
