In the battle of green growth vs degrowth who's claiming what? Unfortunately the latest editorial from @Nature muddles the debate, as @AndrewLFanning explains.
This is such an odd piece from the editors of @Nature that it makes me wonder if they are being deliberately misleading or if it’s just poorly written. I’m so confused. A 🧵 nature.com/articles/d4158…

The degrowth debate can sometimes be confusing - people use the word to mean different things. Jason has laid out the best definition I've seen.
Degrowth: a planned reduction of excess energy and resource use in rich nations to bring the economy back into balance with the living world, while reducing inequality and improving people’s access to the resources they need to live long, healthy, flourishing lives.
This is powerful. A big majority of Europeans want the EU to reach zero emissions by 2030, not 2050. Let this silence those who claim that ambitious climate action is politically infeasible. europeanmoments.com/opinions/eupin…
Floods wash away 25% of Nigeria's rice crop. The climate crisis hits hardest those who have done the least to cause it bloomberg.com/news/articles/…
It strikes me that on some level, whether conscious or not, all of us are traumatised by the fact of having to participate in an economy where most humans, and most living ecosystems, are exploited so that a few can accumulate extraordinary wealth.
What is Malta to introduce something like this?
The Climate and Ecological Emergency Bill would correct the separation of nature and climate in policy and close loopholes used by the govt to justify 2050. Tell your MP, this is what real climate action looks like! youtube.com/watch?time_con…
People keep telling me humans can't plan for the long-term, on the scale of decades of centuries. But here are 45 examples of 'cathedral thinking' from the past 5000 years, featured in The Good Ancestor 1/2
These three papers are not just a few puny nails in the coffin of green growth, they are stakes through its very heart: 🪓💔💹 . 1. tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.108… by @jasonhickel & @g_kallis 2. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108… by @WiedenhoferD et al 3. iopscience.iop.org/article/10.108… by Haberl et al.
Using the words “invasion,” “infestation,”w respect to a specific, targeted group of people, implying they are vermin: this is the language of white supremacy &it goes all the way to the top. It’s not a matter of political stances. This is stoking hatred+endangering the country.

In May, Trump said we are being “invaded” by immigrants. The El Paso shooter said he wanted to stop the “invasion.” Trump asked his rally crowd: "How do you stop these people" from crossing the border? "Shoot them!" Someone screamed. He laughed. Then the crowd laughed.
Our next President should declare a #NationalEmergency on day 1 to address the existential threat to all life on the planet posed by Climate Change.
