A note to the U.K. Press. We at CRS will not be commenting this year about “the plague” of Craneflies “that is about to descend” on the U.K. Why? Because it’s not & you’ll print what you want anyway. You dramatise a natural annual occurrence, they harm no one, the end. Thanks.

Tipula paludosa still hanging on, this a female from a new tetrad in the East Riding of Yorkshire

From the largest to the smallest species of #craneflies from #Catalonia (and probably from Europe): the formidable Tipula maxima and the minute & no less amazing Tasiocera murina, both sharing space and time in the Pyrenees

Time to fight for the future of our wildlife.

Fabulous thread here from Buglife. 👏👏👏👏

Craneflies, a 🧵 We are approaching the time of year where the media publish scare stories about the annual emergence of certain species of #cranefly (aka #DaddyLonglegs). This happens every year (the cranefly emergence & the anti-bug stories). #ShareDontScare 🧵 1/8

Hi @sophiepavs absolutely loved listening to F-M-N though I know it’s not aimed at me as a long time professional ecologist. Great that Craneflies got a mention and should you ever need to know more give us a shout. Would recommend it to anyone #ForgetMeNot

Its #30DaysWild so lets have 30 days of #FLIES A slightly blurry Epiphragma ocellare but all the features to identify it are there. Banded legs, striped abdomen & note the little circle patterns on the wings. This is a Limoniidae - Limonid Cranefly, & these like the woods

New maps available for 'targeting revisits' for a range of recording schemes. Maps show pink 1 km squares that have past records but no repeat surveys, and adding records from these squares helps make data available for monitoring change. Info at brc.ac.uk/article/target…
