Important work from @c_drosten showing why school closures are important: virologie-ccm.charite.de/fileadmin/user…

New report on severity of COVID-19 in children on immunosuppressive medication. Small sample but encouraging! thelancet.com/journals/lanch…

New report from North American PICUs reporting characteristics & outcomes of 48 pediatric COVID-19 patients. ~80% had a co-morbidity, 15% obesity. No hyperinflammatory syndrome cases included. 2 deaths & 9 still hospitalized in severe/critical condition. jamanetwork.com/journals/jamap…

Interesting article on factors associated with progression to severe pediatric COVID-19 from Wuhan Children's Hospital. journals.lww.com/pidj/Abstract/…

There is still so much we do not know about this virus and it's impact on children. Broad conclusions such as there is minimal harm to children & we should immediately open schools are premature. Post-infectious inflammatory syndromes & long term adverse effects remain unclear.

There have been 73 reported cases in NY of children getting severely ill with symptoms similar to Kawasaki disease and toxic shock-like syndrome. On Thursday, a 5-year-old boy passed away from these complications, believed to be caused by COVID-19. DOH is investigating.

Interesting study from an international team of epidemiologists demonstrating benefits of school closing. "While proactive school closures cannot interrupt transmission on their own, they can reduce peak incidence by 40-60% and delay the epidemic." science.sciencemag.org/content/early/…

In a new letter, Jiang et al. report on coinfection of SARS-CoV-2 and multiple respiratory pathogens in children. We recommend all children with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 be tested regardless of the presence of other confirmed pathogens. degruyter.com/view/journals/…

“We gave sick people a drug and some of them got better.” - PubMed now, apparently.

Interesting report from Spain on COVID-19 in Children. A bit higher hospitalization and PICU rate than China. Still need more data! jamanetwork.com/journals/jamap…

Updated data from Spain reports 2 pediatric fatalities and 6 children in ICU.

Updated info - 2 dead, 6 in ICU (out of 627, 0-19 yrs) mscbs.gob.es/profesionales/…
