Just in: The White House is “closely monitoring” blackouts in Cuba, and while the Cuban government hasn’t asked the US for support, WH press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Biden admin did not rule out sending assistance if they did.

Electricity restored in many places in Havana this morning after another total blackout. Parts of Old/Centro Havana, Vedado, El Cerro and Playa have power. The challenge is whether officials can keep the lights on while restoring service to more areas.

A stark warning from Cuban President Diaz-Canel to Cubans who have protested days long power outages, “We are not going to allow acts of vandalism and much less alter the tranquility of our people. That’s a conviction, a principle of our revolution.”

School cancelled in Cuba until Thursday as the island deals with massive power outage and arrival of Hurricane Oscar, the government announced Sunday.

Three days of no power in Cuba and people asking to store medications in fridges of those with generators (mine on the fritz unfortunately at the moment). Cubans preparing for this crisis to last for some time longer.

The view from my roof top this morning as Cuba enters a third day of no power. Other than those with generators, everyone still in the dark.

Another full power outage about five hours ago and again the entire country of Cuba plunged into darkness. Few updates from state outlets or officials since then.

Screams of joy as power comes back on for my street in Havana following a 36 hour blackout. Hope it lasts and others still in the dark are reconnected soon as well.

It’s now been over 24 hours since the power went out in Cuba. Officials were briefly able to restore service in some places before another black out struck. Most of the ten million people who live here have been without power since yesterday morning if not longer.
