We're hiring a researcher to build instruments to study moulins - and get a PhD! It'll be working with Liz Bagshaw (@CardiffColdClim) and myself in @CU_EARTH and Jonny Lees and Allan Mason-Jones in @EngineeringCU Apply by 1st May. #PolarPhD findaphd.com/phds/project/e…

5 (five. FIVE!) years after first submission, my last chapter from my PhD @ERC_RESPONDER @scottpolar is finally published 😭 We observe (and model) high melting at the base of Store Glacier in W. Greenland 🇬🇱 from turbulent flow in a large subglacial channel.

A @Cambridge_Uni led study, whose first author, TJ Young @tjy511, is a Darwin Postdoctoral Research Associate, observes that the world’s second-largest ice sheet is melting from the bottom up. Find out more: cam.ac.uk/stories/greenl… ❄️❄️

Really nice and clear piece in @ConversationUK by @Geophysics_Adam here.

📢 More fibre-optic fun in Greenland! Great work from @scottpolar PhD @_Rob_Law, reported here - advances.sciencemag.org/content/7/20/e… 🎁 And, it's a gift that keeps on giving, check out our @ConversationUK article too! theconversation.com/how-cables-in-… 🇬🇱❄🌨💦

I'll second that...

📢Tell @EGU_CR, @EuroGeosciences, the whole world, about your awesome research in subglacial environments! Submit to #vEGU21 session CR3.3 - meetingorganizer.copernicus.org/EGU21/session/… - and we'll see you in virtual Vienna!

Khumbu Ice is just 3.3 Degree Celsius below the melting point and getting closer to the melting point at a rate of 0.5 degrees Celsius per decade. What does it signify? #Himalaya #glacier #Nepal wp.me/p6iC0n-2uA5 via @thehimalayan

Another @geologging OPTV on its way into a snowy borehole for @INTERACT66-supported #RhoBOT and #snap.

Well done 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Team #RhoBOT have a borehole! Long awaited after 5 bad weather days, a broken drill leaving us hand-coring & a 2 m deep snow pit to retrieve the stuck corer. But we did reach > 11 m - next step: OPTV & seismic to get density & accumulation measurements! @AU_CfG @INTERACT66

Ice temperatures warmer than expected on world’s highest glacier according to research published in Nature Scientific Reports by @Katie_Miles_851 @Bryn_Hubbard @AU_DGES @AU_CfG #Himalaya #EverDrill #Environment #Everest aber.ac.uk/en/news/archiv…

Some of the science that is being done on the Khumbu glacier. @Bryn_Hubbard will be mentioning this recent paper in our talk in Borth Hall this Saturday at 7pm. Everyone welcome! Well done Katie. All that hard work paid off 👏🏻👏🏻

Beyond delighted that the first #EverDrill (and my first PhD) paper is out and open-access in @SciReports!! We drilled boreholes into #Khumbu #Glacier #Everest, measured ice temperatures and found the ice was warmer than we’d expected. nature.com/articles/s4159… @AU_CfG @AberUni

Well done on this @Katie_Miles_851; months in the lab making and calibrating thermistor strings, through three visits to Khumbu, through writing & revising, to publishing 18 months later... An important finding for #EverDrill, and thanks to support from @NERCscience and @AberUni

Excellent first #EverDrill output by @Katie_Miles_851! Borehole temperature measurements of Khumbu #Glacier in Nepal. The ice is pretty warm...

An admirable decision. Ideally, should the composition of an editorial or other senior board reflect diversity in society (in this case ~50:50) or in the available pool (here presumably between 50:50 and 21:3). Should this ambition be a formal evaluation/appointment criterion?
