I took care of a patient who came in to the emergency department because when they woke up that morning they “didn’t want to get out of bed”…I didn’t realize that was abnormal.
Registered and booked for #NAEMSP2025. Super pumped to thaw out in San Diego, and of course the learning and people and stuff.
My two-year-old’s choice of bedtime story. Not sure if she was trying to delay bedtime or get a head start on board review.
Intern me to the ICU nurse when they page me for orders.
I had a professor in college who started the first day of class by saying, “You have to risk failure in order to succeed”. I later dropped his class because I was definitely going to fail, but I still think about that quote any time I’m afraid of doing something hard.
One time in high school a girl told me I had nice calves. That was more than 20 years ago and I still think of her when I flex my calves. That’s the power of a compliment.
When the new interns show up.

Every time I progress through another phase in my medical training I think “the hardest part is over”. Then, I find out I’m wrong. It has to get easier, right? #MedEd
Dear Epic, can we please add GIFs to secure chat? I really think they could help to convey important clinical information.
Ten years ago, when I was still a paramedic, a recruiter called offering me a locums job as an ER doc paying $350/hr and covered licensing fees, etc. He withdrew the offer when I asked if that included the cost of med school. Should’ve taken it.
In #MedSchool, I once had an attending that listened without interrupting as I struggled through my presentation and waited til I was done to ask questions. I try to remember her patience and self-restraint whenever I work with a #MedStudent.
The prelim read said “recommend physical exam” so at least they toned down the spice on the final read.
A #MedEd hill I will die on: the least powerful person on the team should not be the only one invested in, and advocating for, their learning.
"If you want to be a Badger, just come along with me..." 🦡❤️ We're so excited to kick off another residency interview season, we just couldn't contain our pride in being Wisconsin Badgers 🙌 We can't wait to meet all of our #EMbound applicants for #Match2024!
