Rorty writing in 1998. Ages better as a prediction with each passing year.
Suburban boomers love to whine about fireworks. Basically the one week of the year when suburban public spaces prioritise children having fun over middle aged dog walking (witness every park gradually eliminating kids playing sport unless its some officially recognised league).
IT REALLY IS MAGICAL! BROMLEY ARE INTO THE SECOND ROUND OF THE EMIRATES FA CUP FOR THE FIRST TIME SINCE 1946! #WeAreBromley
Recently cleared out a load of my dad's stuff. If only I'd known the two fax machines I found in his study could have been sold on to Northern Rail! Wonder if they've got any use for a microfilm reader and about 25 years of redundant PCs and printers...
That Northern Rail fax machine exchange in full
There’s lots of work still to do: here’s a reminder of the changes we want to see from the new government. medaille-trust.org.uk/news/what-does… #AntiSlaveryDay #ModernSlavery #Safeguarding #SupportSurvivors #ViolenceAgainstWomen #MedailleTrust
Last week, we were very grateful to @jessphillips for taking the time to sit with our Medaille Trust survivors and staff. This special event for Anti-Slavery Day was a great opportunity for MPs to sit and talk directly with survivors of modern slavery about their experiences.
A highlight for me every year to represent @MedailleTrust at these awards in parliament with so many brilliant partners. Always inspiring to hear what's going on to innovate our support for survivors across the country.
What a pleasure to be here at #AntiSlaveryDayAwards2024 with so many inspiring and brillliant anti slavery NGOs, journalists and politicians.
Good, obviously, but depressing that a government essentially reliant for its survival on a generation of renters is still so scared of Nimbyism that we all have to pretend that we don't need to build on greenbelt (a nonsense designation anyway) & frankly, just get on with it.
JUST ANNOUNCED: More than 50 councils across England given cash to prepare brownfield land for housing 🚧 🛠️ This multi-million-pound funding boost into councils will make way for thousands of new homes 🏘️
The Pope has called modern slavery a crime against humanity and urged us to unite against it. Join us this lunchtime at 1pm for a special #AntiSlaveryWeek webinar where we will discuss how we can recognise the signs and tackle slavery in our communities: cbcew.org.uk/webinar-modern…
30. 'How the West was Lost' by @BenedictWRyan The title sounds a bit 'GB News', but it's actually a balanced, nuanced, thoughtful and self-critical defence of Western values. Between the lines, it reads as an apologetic for Christian Democracy *against* right-wing reaction.
Next week is Anti-Slavery Week and there are a number of events taking place across our Network, one of which is the below webinar, hosted by @catholicEW and @YourStMarys at which @MedailleTrust will be sharing insights. Register for your place today ⤵️
Modern slavery is not just a distant problem: it is happening right on our doorstep. This exciting event for Catholic Schools, Diocese and other Agencies looks at the reality of modern slavery in the UK today an asks "What can we do?".
Kicking off our International Criminal Justice Confernce in Albania. Great to be welcomed yesterday by @UKinAlbania We have brought together police, academics and practitioners to better understand dynamics of trafficking and migration between UK and Albania
I am colourblind, and I'm sure that's not helping, but why have Spurs decided to wear camo for their kit today?
What's the Portuguese for 'you're getting sacked in the morning'?
Looking fowards to speaking at this event on 'Modern Slavery on our Doorstep' hosted by @CSANonline @catholicEW and @StMarysU I'll be reflecting on our work at Medaille Trust on the frontlines of supporting survivors. cbcew.org.uk/webinar-modern…
Guy on the train reckons he's made over £2k this year because his company pays his train ticket to go to Birmingham twice a week, but he keeps the delay repay & delays and cancellation are so consistent he's made a fortune. The lone man in England pleased with state of trains.
So if true, Chelsea are paying Sterling more than £150,000 every week to play for a direct london rival that has a realistic chance of winning the league. What's the opposite of moneyball?
Am told, on Sterling, Arsenal paying no loan fee and less than 50% wage contribution independent.co.uk/sport/football…
