Some people believe that by giving EU and US everything they want they will be happier and stronger as a country. Well. Bosnia is an example that this is not the case. #Kosova

Everyone says Kurti is not-cooperative. Yet nobody wants to define what is "cooperative", what does it entail, what it means and how is manifested. And why the term "non-cooperative" emerged once the term "democracy" vanished from diplomatic dictionary and vocabulary?

Is there any other country where foreign Ambassadors give more interviews than domestic Prime Ministers or Presidents? Can anyone count how many interviews have Jeff, Rohde given compared to Kurti? And why?🧵

Grateful to all @natopapress members who voted in favor of upgrading Kosovo's status to that of an associate member. NATO is Kosovo's destiny, and this move will ensure that the voice of the most pro-NATO people on Earth is heard. We will continue our efforts together with our…

🧵 on international courts - where they mattered, hugely. An international intervention managed - much too late - to create a peace in the Balkans post-1999 that has lasted a quarter century. Credible international justice - the ICTY - was and remains absolutely central to this…

It’s difficult to imagine EU having any less credibility in the Western Balkans but the joint 🇫🇷 🇮🇹 🇩🇪 blockade of Kosovo’s entry into the Council of Europe is certainly a new low. Who needs 🇷🇺 & 🇨🇳 meddling when European govts so aptly self-sabotage their own interests.

Shit! Europe is going to lose more and more leverage in the Western Balkans. The situation is getting worse. Nationalism, authoritarism, rising 🇨🇳 and 🇷🇺 influence in the region are a threat. Leadership and courage matter. Council of Europe won’t be complete without Kosovo. 🇽🇰🇪🇺

Finally read @JasminMuj new book. So many things to recommend about it, but I’ll share just a couple. As a primer on the incredibly complex post-Dayton political arrangements of BiH, it is a necessary read for anyone interested in the politics of the region 🧵

The translation of my @just_security txt on the need to admit Kosovo to the Council of Europe is the most read article in Serbia’s @OnlineDanas To paraphrase my friend @KurtBassuener: there is a constituency for change. Read the original article here: justsecurity.org/95340/the-case…

Gabriel Escobar’s departure as US W. Balkans envoy - which has been rumored since last yr & now officially confirmed - will only be significant if the Biden admin reevaluates its regional policy ahead of any new appointments. Otherwise just new faces pursuing impotent aims.

🦄 What IS a “Community of Serb-majority municipalities” in Kosovo? Is it even a thing? Or, like a unicorn, something that does not exist anywhere in the real world? An “Association of Serb-majority municipalities” IS a thing. But who can create it? 101 on a masterclass…

French reserve forces to conduct drills w/ @euforbih amid renewed threats to Bosnia's security by Russo-Serbian backed secessionists, while France will simultaneously sell fighter jets to Serbia. Europe is literally at odds with itself in the Balkans. swissinfo.ch/eng/foreign-af…

I totally agree with @JasminMuj on this. I’ve been wondering what the hell Biden’s Ambassador has been trying to accomplish in the Balkans other than trying to appease Vucic and berate Kosovo. This approach by the USA is incomprehensible and reprehensible.

The Biden admin’s appointment of Hill as ambassador to Serbia has done massive damage to US credibility in the region. His cowtowing to Vucic is demeaning to Kosovo, to genuine democrats in Serbia, and to the US itself. He should have been recalled three times over by now.

This. Exactly totally completely this. Well said. Same.

People don’t understand why I want to support #Bosnia and #Kosova as I do. And I frankly don’t care. I feel I have to do it. I am not from those countries and I cannot understand? Maybe. Does that mean I cannot do it? No. I just want justice and raise the voice of the citizens.

I’ve been following news of the Balkans since the 90s, and in one month of having created a twitter/x account to focus solely on that region of the world I hade learned more about it than I have from any news article or book I’ve read in the past 30 years.

Here to learn.
