Students in AP Environmental Science with Ms. Derks added fish to their ecocolumns today. This 4-week activity models water & filtration cycles while combining AP science standards. Students collect data on soil and water pH levels, fertility, temperature, oxygen/nitrogen levels.

This week students in Digital Imaging with Ms. Mays shared their videos/presentations with their own photos & the famous photographers that inspired them. Such a great comparison of characteristics & style of their photos to those of the professionals.

Board games = market research in Mr. Swanson’s Marketing: Branding & Selling class. As part of the feedback loop on their board game creation, students built, instructed & played original games. They also pitched their product to potential investors and reflected on the process.

BVNW Spanish Honor Society students led Harmony Elementary 5th graders through 8 stations to learn more about Día de los muertos today. Ms. Luffman & Ms. Martens have partnered for this student-led activity since 2017 & have made it an annual event.

This week in Mr. Smith & Mr. Petersen’s physics classes, students reviewed applications of Newton’s laws through class discussion. They rated their pre-discussion comfort levels with the topics, discussed as a class and then reflected on learning. Understanding was a team effort!

Mr. Farrington, Ms. Smith & Ms. Kinkelaar’s AVID 9-12 grade classes visited JCCC today to learn about dual degree & post-secondary opportunities. A campus presentation & tour to see the many options available just down the road!

Annual taste test day in AP Stats! Ms. Ratigan & Ms. Deffer’s classes designed experiments comparing 2 similar products for other classes to try & decide on their favorite. Then, students create a video advertising the preferred product. Fun stats in action.

Happy Mole Day! Chemistry students in Ms. Sulla, Ms. Kennedy & Ms. Heiman’s classes participated Mole Day during part of class yesterday & today. This activity is to celebrate Avogrado’s number 6.022x10^23, the number of atoms in 12 grams of carbon-12 (one mole).

Today in Ms. Witwer’s class students identified elements to build suspense and applied them to a popular, seasonal short video. Students then shared their opinions & emotions around the most suspenseful elements. Perfect for spooky season!

Is a debate scrimmage a thing? It was this week in debate with Mr. Michaels! Students participated in timed practice rounds mirroring the process of a debate tournament. Students constructed their case, cross-examined and rebutted in teams to simulate tournament competition.

Students in Intro to Algebra 2 with Mr. Titus started class with ACT practice questions and then engaged in team building activities before working on their individualized math plan of study. Mr. Titus differentiates student learning through Delta math to target specific skills.

This week in Mr. Lange’s AP U.S. History class, students built an outline around an assigned position and then participated in a Socratic Seminar to discuss what the Revolution. The group then came to an agreement & students reflected on their learning.

PSAT coordinator & counselor, Ms. Keller organized this week’s PSAT tech check. During this time about 230 students verified that their computers are ready for the big day on October 11 and accessed the practice test from College Board.@BVNWCounseling

Students in Ms. Heiman’s physical science classes had the opportunity to make assessment corrections on their recent unit exam. They worked collaboratively to identify errors and then conferenced individually with Ms. Heiman to further explain and check their understanding.

After team building at the choir retreat last weekend, students in Ms. Richey-Sullivan’s class warmed up with sight singing in which they recorded themselves. Then they defined & practiced dynamics to improve their skills. Great connections to each other & the music! @bvnwchoir
