After much persistence, a team of us have managed to save around half of the 1980 Metro-Cammell Glasgow Subway cars from the scrap yard. A huge thanks to @BenDC_ for his relentless work to secure deals for these much loved little trains for and project managing their re-homing.

Forget the nonsense about reviewing costs on Phase 1 of HS2, today's real news is that this government has announced in no uncertain terms that it will not be progressing with Phase 2 to Crewe, Manchester or Leeds. Craven. Short-sighted. Hugely damaging.

Worth saying, I absolutely share @AndyBurnhamGM's desire to see capacity relief on the WCML and in central Manchester. I just think the political call to let others weave engineering myths into a "we can do this cheaper" narrative is the wrong one.

Railway engineer @GarethDennis has criticised an @AndyBurnhamGM commissioned plan for an alternative on HS2 – saying it will cost more. Dennis said changes recommended in the report “are not rooted in any reality”.

In May this year, @LordPeterHendy pressured my now-former employer @SYSTRA_UKIRL to sack me by threatening them. Why did he do this? Because I'd highlighted safety and accessibility issues at Euston station. He is unfit for office and should resign. politico.eu/article/uk-rai…

Without this man, the whole world would have got modern high speed rail quite a lot later. A genuine living legend.

An amazing experience @LocomotionSHD today to spend a couple of hours with Professor Alan Wickens of BR Research Derby, and arguably the architect of high speed rail travel in the UK. A real privilege for he is nearly 95 but as sharp as ever and climbed into the cab @BobGwynne

A reminder that Scottish transport priorities are still an absolute shambles, despite how much better things look from down in England. Only Wales is getting strategic transport policy right, and even then the WG remains rail investment agnostic.

LATEST: A9 costs escalate from £3bn up to £7.2bn. New @SPICe_Research reveals that dualling the A9 could exceed its original budget by 140%. It's time for a moratorium on further road spend – until a comprehensive review has been carried out. See 👇 parliament.scot/-/media/files/…

People make all these weird claims like “there’s loads of things we could do to improve our rail network instead of building a high speed rail” and when you ask them to expand on that they: A) go silent B) say things that won’t work C) suggest we do what HS2 does

ok I think I'm going to do some model railway planning today. I think I'm going to make some alt history for it too
